Online office alternatives

What do you do when you've been working on those important docs and suddenly you're capped.

No thanks - not here.

Not for me either...

Its just not fast enough.... The docs I work with are too big to do online in this country.

Online applications assume high-speed connections and cheap bandwidth, so WTF is this article doing in MyBB??
Just yesterday had to see a consultant cringe when his presentation of a web-based reporting system failed repeatedly because GPRS is just not fast enoough

Google Docs uses Gears, an open source browser extension that enables web applications to run offline. When you aren't connected to the Internet, Google Docs uses information stored on your computer's hard drive, rather than relying on information sent across the network.

When you're offline, your edits are stored on your own computer until you re-connect, at which point your changes are synced with Google Docs' servers and made available to collaborators.

To access Google Docs offline, simply type http://docs.google.com in your browser address bar or click the desktop shortcut that is downloaded during the installation process.
