Moving to a new property in about a month.

Had fibre installed about 4 years ago at the current house. Was one of those Free Installation sign ups. Never took the free router because I had my own. They just installed the fibre connection in the house and the ONT.

Will be giving notice of cancelation of Monday. Then apply for a new installation at the new property once we have moved in.

Do I take the current Huawei ONT with me or do I leave it?
If I take it with me, can I just tell the ISP and installation team I do have one available?

Thanks guys. I'll leave it then.

Is there a way I can prove to the Fibre Provider it was at the rental property when I left.

Just wondering what will happen when we move, I leave it, new tenants move in and decide to chuck it in the bin or lose it?

Take a photo if you're that worried. It's part of the property. It's the same as an old Telkom ADSL outlet box. No-one takes it. Make sure the estate agent knows you left it there before you vacate for your own piece of mind.

It's pretty much useless otherwise. Fibre providers would be suspicious if you suddenly pitch up with your own ONT, as it's not consumer property, and they maintain their own.

Apply for fibre asap at new place, installation can take some time.

After the debate in another thread, I would take a photo of the ONT in situ and send a copy of a sworn statement to your service provider that you left it in situ. It is what I will be doing soon.

ONT always stays. Otherwise new tenants have to pay an installation fee.

This is correct. The previous idiot who rented the place we are renting stole the ONT from Openserv and I had to pay for a replacement unit via my ISP. And stretched out the install by a month and a half just because he is a douchbag criminal

Another total failure by the FNOs in thinking through the process of terminating a fibre connection.

That's the landlord's problem. They've got to do an exit inspection with you - if they don't, then they've accepted that you've left everything in good order.

The problem is beyond rented accommodation -- it includes ALL wireline technology deployments.

The first question the installer at your new place will ask when you tell them that you have your own ONT is call the police.

Also, apply now already before you actually have to move in. So you sign up with the ISP who will contact the FNO who will contact the trenching contractor. The contractor will call you and you give them the date of the day before you move in.

That's why I did with Afrihost.

You can also just contact your FNO and have them do the installation and you pay them direct. That way you're not forced to sign up with anyone until you're good and ready. There's that story of a guy here who got double charged because the services overlapped or something like the ISP had to activate the line.

Thanks guys.

Will mark it with DO NOT REMOVE and also take photos and send to the landlord when we leave. As well as have them confirm it is there when I give them back the keys.

Will apply for the new fibre next week as well. At this stage it is not certain when exactly we will be moving. But I'm sure I can just schedule the actual installation once I know the transfer went through and we will be in and ready.

Just an update on this.

I wrote DO NOT REMOVE and the ADDRESS on the ONT with permanent marker. Also wrote the B number on there if the new tenants would like to get going quickly and get connected.

Also applied for a new line at the new property 3 weeks ago. Lo and behold the Openserve techie phones two days later and wants to come do the install. I explained him our situation of only moving in on Sunday 1 November and he said no problem. Booked us for first slot Monday 2 November.

Also sent me his personal number if anything should change. And I just confirmed with him that we are still on for 8h30 Monday morning.

Yes Openserve does push for installs asap. In some cases you can get installed the same or next day after the order is placed. Orders can be scheduled in certain cases. :)
