ONT when moving

Yes Openserve does push for installs asap. In some cases you can get installed the same or next day after the order is placed. Orders can be scheduled in certain cases. :)
Lol I guess the Openserve KZN team is a bit different. I got my fibre installed in March last year and January this year when I moved to a new place, both times it took them over a month to be finished even when the pole was only 20 metres away.

I guess it depends on the area and the availability of contractors to do the installation. I ordered a fibre line for a client early morning about 7am and they were installed around 4pm the same day. This usually happens if the ISP schedules the client on the portal a few minutes after the order is placed and a B number is allocated.

Yeah I don't know why they're so slow here. It took them 3 weeks before they sent a contractor out to do the installation, and a further week just to get a tech to bring and provision the ONT. It probably would have taken longer than a week if I didn't ask CISP to chase it up with Openserve.

But the second time I think they had to connect up a new line to the aerial box, because they were working in the manhole in the street which took them a few hours before they activated the ONT. It still doesn't excuse over a month of waiting in my opinion.

I've noticed Openserve tends to leave their ONTs unattached to anything while other FNOs like Vumatel and Octotel tend to hot glue their ONTs to the wall.

Yeah ours was simply plugged in and fibre cable was made longer for in case we wanted to move it a meter or two.

And as suspected Mr Openserve Techie promised to be at the new address at 9h30 today. Then 12h00... Then at 14h00 he was almost there. And now another techie took over and said he will be there 8h30 tomorrow.

question from a noob here, can you actually buy your own ONT outright?
and take it anywhere you want, kind of like the old 56K modems.

No, the ONT is part of the FNO's network. Every FNO uses a different make and model.

I'll take the ONT with me, I left a ISDN NTU behind once which grew legs and Telkom asked me for the thing. I'll keep the ONT until I can get a receipt for it from the provider.

Yeah, you're gonna be charged for the theft of the device, as well as receive a bill for the repairs to the network.

It's because of people like you that we can't have nice things.

Did you even bother reading & comprehending my post?

So Openserve finally pitched now....

Let's hope it is an easy install. Apparently they already struggled to find the black box but after 15min they did find it.

Overhead in your area?

Not 100% sure. Wife is at home and trying to explain to me what they are telling her.

Anyway. They got the cable and ONT installed into the house. But seems like the connection is dead at the main box. New team assigned with no ETA of course

Yup, that was my experience also. The Fibre cores are not guaranteed to be spliced all the way to the nearest node. This is because of the terrible work done by the initial installation team. And because there is no way to know until a link is established, it always results in delays.
Gone are the days when a simple "buzzer" can be used to undertake continuity tests!

Oh well.... Will have to start digging for the IT box to unpack tonight. Will need that 3G Router because wife needs to get working from home again tomorrow morning.

My move is also to an Openserve section - moving from Frogfoot. There is already an ONT but not sure of the state of the connection... at least I have Rain 5G as a backup which SHOULD work

With an existing ONT in place, at least the fibre will be through end to end and should be up and running.
Have you got a router handy that you can plug into the WAN 1 port to see? If the link lights up it is working even if the service is not authorized or active for service provision.
