Hi, I'm getting a bit desperate here. My 2005 Corsa Lite won't start. I've established that spark plugs and coil pack are okay. I've established the fuel pump relay is okay. Now, I'm trying to figure out if there is a fuel pump fuse somewhere too so I can check whether it's blown before I check the pump itself.

Anyone know where the fuel pump fuse is (if any)? the internet is very unhelpful. It either wants to give me details for the Corsa B (which is different) or the Corsa C (which is newer and also different).

And to make things extra difficult, the car is also not OBD2 compliant so I can't just plug my scanner in and get all the delicious useful information.

I would remove all the fuses one by one and check if you dont know which one it is? You sure thay relay is ok? Ive had issues on a Corsa B with a dicky one before.

Can you hear the fuel pump when you key the ignition?

The fuse box has a legend and the legend does not have an icon related to fuel. There are fuses for power windows, lights, fans, demisters, fog lights, etc, but nothing related to fuel. And there's no secondary fuse box in the engine bay like in some Corsa B's. And also there's no fuse next to the relay. I've replaced the relay with a new one and they both click in the same way at the same time so that's working.

I can't hear the fuel pump. But I've also never been able to hear the fuel pump even when the car was running fine. So that's not conclusive for me. I guess I might as well expose the pump and put a multimeter on it to see if I see anything useful.

Blocked fuel filter? Isnt there a bleed valve on the fuel rail by the injectors?

Did the car juat start its crap or has it been giving problems in the past?

@TheChamp/USER] any ideas?

Nope. The newer models have a Schrader valve on the side of the fuel rail but mine does not. Mine has a fuel pressure regulator where the schrader valve would be.

Car just suddenly decided not to start again. It was running fine up until that point.

Once in about twenty cranks it will run for literally five seconds, then die again and be unable to start.

I'm still not 100% sure what it's problem is but I've eliminated spark as an issue. I had a bad coil pack many years ago and I know the symptoms of that (missing, fuel smell, rough idle, backfiring, etc). This is like there's no fuel coming at all. I'm basically trying to test the fuel pump circuit and if that's okay, the crank angle sensor. Hopefully but that time I'd have found the problem because then I'm out of ideas.

Oh yah, and as a bonus thumb of the nose at me, this model also doesn't support the "paperclip test" or brake + accelerator combo to flash stored engine codes. Which would have been very helpful.

I replaced the pump on my corsa B last year but i knew it was knackered as i could always hear it and then one day nothing.

How old is that coil pack? Had starting issues with one as well. Have you checked you get spark on all 4 leads?

Dropping the fuel tank to get to the pump is going to be fun.

The pump is accessible from under the rear seat luckily. I tested the coil pack with a multimeter. And then I went to Goldwagen and tested one of theirs and got the same Ohm readings on their one. So I know it's good at least.

I have the bakkie. No such luck for me...

You said you checked and you have spark.
Take some quick start spray in the intake pipe. if it runs then you know its fuel.

Your ecu would use crank and or camshaft position sensors to know when to fire the injectors. If it has no signal the injectors wont fire.

so i would put money on Cam / crank or maf sensor

All cars older than 1991 or 92 must be odbii compliant?

Manage to get this sorted out?
Not yet sadly. It's such a pain trying to get information about this car from the internet. Because Only Brazil and SA had the Corsa Lite, so all the info is for the Corsa B, which is slightly different in many ways. E.g. they say there's a fuse box next to the battery in the engine bay. THERE ISN'T. And I've not even been able to find any schematics or pinout information for the Lite either. Probably never will.

Well, good luck, keep us updated, always interested to see the outcome and what the problem was.
Your post could help someone else in the future.

UPDATE: so two things:
1. The fuel pump is dead. There's power to the plug at the pump, but it doesn't turn on.
2. Fuse #26 is the fuel pump fuse I was looking for. It IS actually on the fuse panel under the steering wheel. It's a yellow 20A fuse.

But now, my next bit of stress is trying to figure out which is the right replacement fuel pump. There are a couple of similar pumps for sale but some are 1 bar, some are 3 bars. Some have a housing with the inlet and outlet pipes pointing the wrong way (or the right way for the Corsa B, not the Corsa Lite). The Corsa lite's "lid" has the power plug on one end, and the two hard fuel lines point the other way (towards the front of the car).

Anyone know what the correct part number is or which aftermarket pump to use? I'm torn between buying the whole housing or just the pump. There's a huge difference in price.

UPDATE: Bosch fuel pump part number is 0580453477 or "0 580 453 477". This is for the pump only, not the complete unit including the housing. It's easy enough to disassemble the whole thing to remove the pump only.

It's actually the injector circuit fuse.
Don't buy the whole thing, just go to Midas, I got a Bosch one for around R200 a couple of years ago, apparently it's a universal pump according to those guys.

Yes, it's easy, the most difficult part that took me the whole two days was getting the lid to close, for some reason the rubber gasket had swelled up and wasn't budging, all it took was putting it in the sun to soften up, I was so annoyed with myself for not figuring that out earlier.
