Hi , I need help -
When I try to connect to any IRC network , I get banned -:
[02:40:28] Closing Link: Anish[<IP>] (User has been banned from Chatznet (Open proxy found on your host. Please visit www.blitzed.org/proxy?=<IP> for more information.))
And note: thats same with all the networks.

I don't even use any proxy at all so there's not a chance that other users be connecting through my proxy (or whatever open proxy is) .
I think its because someone has hacked my computer? Or probably some virus?
I use outpost firewall pro and even after setting the host protection to 'advanced' , it's same.

Please help :(

P.S. I have dial-up , so yeah - I have a dynamic ip . But everytime I reconnect my internet, and try to connect to the IRC server, I get banned with same msg.

Do you have a legal version of Windows?
Is it fully patched?
Do you have a decent antivirus (No Nortons doesnt cut it)?
Is it fully updated?

If you answered no to any of these questions, chances are your system is infected and is someones biatch.

Yes , I have legal version of windows
Yes , it is fully patched
No , I don't have any antivirus :x But when I see the detailed running process's list from outpost firewall , I don't see any mysterious process.. I'll post the logs of trendsecure hijackthis here if u want.

Will trendsecure pickup rootkits?

Being online without an antivirus is extremely irresponsible. You are creating a danger to yourself and to others.

err ok , I'll install kaspersky asap . But shouldn't my firewall be able to protect me from intruders? It does confirm from user whenever any application demands outbound internet connection

It does that, for sure.

But most of the malware floating around tend to hide inside your Internet Explorer/Firefox sessions so you'll only see legitimate outgoing connections.

Also, said malware will also "spoof" legit Windows programs, and fool you that way.

It should in theory.. but to a certain degree. 100`s of virus`s are passed through other means other than an open TCP/IP connection. You could have got it from a USB stick, a music CD .. on of any of a hundred different sources.

You could be infected now..and rooted.. which means that even if you install an antivirus.. its so deep and hidden you might not find it.

Your firewall might pick up open connections but the virus could have opened up a port on your system (that as of yet.. does not have an connected connection)..

Have you tried scanning yourself or getting someone to scan you IP?

thanks for replies guys , I think I'll format and re-install windows (or maybe ubuntu ) soon enough.
And for the temporary , I found another way to bypass that - using mibbit :)

And yes of course , the problem is the viruses...
