I still have a thru the roof AV cables I used for old DStv decoder which I no longer use - I tried to use the AV jack and cable supplied with the OVHD decoder (HDMI connected to lounge TV) and connecting it thru the roof cables - but the picture was jumbled and more buzz than signal on audio - experimented with moving cables between different combinations of yellow red and white connections - still no change - anybody using this AV output with success

Yellow is video, Red and white are stereo sound Red - is "Right", White is "Left".
You can't swop the cables over or mix them up. The longer the cables are, the more risk there is of interference and cross-talk between them. First, verify the outputs on the decoder with a relatively short cable and the TV you want to use to view and then try the cable. If you have not used that cable for a few years, you will have to check it out for possible damage.

Thanks for advice - I hope I am using the correct cable

Yes that is it. It is a pretty pathetic solution. But we are stuck with it. You could try and get an RF remodulator (AV to RF Converter) to "convert" the signal to RF and distribute that to remote points as an alternative to using a very long AV cable. That would require an RF coax cable running to the remote point. Better screening and less prone to interference from power sources etc.

would it not be just cheaper or easier to just get a second decoder and register it on a different number?

I have two dishes - one for the lounge and another for the office but I was trying to unclutter the office of decoders and as I had a dedicated line thru the roof that I was not using the idea was to hook up the lounge OVHD decoder to the office screen - this should have taken minutes to achieve - not - so today I have snipped the thru the roof cables off and put the office decoder back - now have clutter again but at least all now works

Yes could be if you factor in the need for another RF cable connection to the antenna and at least a TWIN Universal LNB.

Will OVHD will work with a SD dish/lnb?. The dish is aligned for dstv.

No such thing as an SD dish/lnb. Only single or dual LNB and different size dish. Bigger is better and may help with signal/bad weather.

OVHD is on the same satellite as DSTV, 68.5 degrees East, IS 20. LNB used for DSTV should work. OVHD decoders are set for default to use a Universal LNB. Needs to be independent of any DSTV service with its own cable and LNB port.
Can be used with DSTV's SLNBs but requires special settings.
ID the LNB for us and we may be able to assist.

Hi - Sorry to ask about something from a long time back, but Geoff, would you mind giving us a blow by blow method of modifying a normal Transcend USB stick to work with the NA9200 decoders. I have already downloaded the SMI software, just not sure what comes next.
Also, after you tried it and it worked, did they also have issues like skipping, jumping, etc? Will a USB 3.0 work better, or is it not the stick that is the problem? Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Was not me that did it. I would have to find who it was by looking back in this thread or the other ones to find out who. In the meantime you could also search for the original post.

Sorry Geoff, your are correct! I see now that it was DeonvdW. Post #93
Deon, if you are still around, please help with the above.
I have a Transcend 32GB USB stick that I could use.

How long does it take to activate? Tried the used code, entered the STB number and nothing. The message on-screen says "The STB or smartcard has not been activated." Waited an hour tried again, nothing. Another hour and still nothing.

Didn't take long for me, a few minutes.
Are you sending an sms to a number with the STB or do you use USSD?
Maybe try one or the other.
Keep the channel on the Promo channel until it activates.

Not sms, ussd code. It asked for the STB number and I entered it. And it's stuck on promo channel, its not allowing me to change the channel. I don't know if this makes a difference. But this decoder was given to me by a family member. He bought it in 2015 but never used it. It was still sealed in the box. It's not a OVHD PVR, model DSD 4139 UEC.

No jokes. But have you tried turning it off for a short while and back on again?
Otherwise there should be a number on the box you can phone to get help.

Should work, IF it indicates that is was set up for OVHD. But because it is not the latest version, you would probably have to telephonically contact the call centre to get anywhere. There are a few sw updates that have taken place since then as well, so it might be a protracted process before it works.

Thanks for your help. I just phoned the call centre. And according to them the STB number is blocked. Since it was never activited and lying in a cupboard collecting dust. I have to buy a new one. DAMN!

That is a cop-out on the part of OVHD. It may have to be re-instated at their offices or a repair centre. Of course, the issue is "Is it worth the time effort and hassle" when a new one costs so little.
