Openserve Coverage Map Update

Hi ,

Please can someone advise on turnaround for Openserve to update their coverage map. They have completed installation in our complex a few weeks ago, and Telkom had setup a signup day over the weekend for new fibre requests, however given how expensive Telkom is on their prices on Openserve and that they are only offering 24 month contracts, i want to go with a different ISP but need the coverage map to be updated. Is there anything i can do , i did ask the Telkom agent he said they dont know when they will update it, unless they are delaying it so that Telkom can sign-up more people in our complex.

Telkom finished the "last mile" reticulation in December last year in our suburb, including the box with the fibre loop on the pole in the corner of our property.

The damn map is still light purple, showing FUTURE FIBRE. I think that they do this on purpose to limit competition.

Sigh. Your complex is lying to you.

All FTTH from Telkom can be taken on a month to month basic, fibre only (so you can use another ISP) or fibre and Telkom data.
Just search for previous posts from me where I've posted the prices multiple times.

As for map updates, it happens when it happens. I've had 100MB fibre for almost a year and it is still showing as light purple on their map.

@whatwhat: How did you get Fiber if it's still showing as light purple? Currently I'm sitting with 2 x orders with 2 x different ISPs, but both are saying that they can't do anything until the map has been updated.

Thanks Guys, much appreciated for the feedback, so spent the day making a few calls to ISPs following up on multiple orders i have opened, Afrihost says they are awaiting sign-off on the fibre install for our area so cant proceed, Cool-ideas cannot proceed until there is availability on the map, apparently Telkom can hold exclusivity in a complex which my body corp mentioned is not the case. Chatted to the Telkom rep, mentioned i can get the fibre installed by the week as they are busy with other units in the complex, but only on a 24month contract. Feels like Telkom & Openserve are really putting us in a corner.

Installation was free and they gave me a free router contrary to what the ad says.

As someone who watches the map a few times a months I have noticed that:

Two areas near us has started to get fibre in Feb and March, up till now it STILL shows light purple. I know they are finished a long time ago since there is no activities happening in the past few months.

Thanks for the following just read up and saw that they launched the HOMEUnlimted Packages today with some decent FUP mobile data and a telkom land line rental , i currently have a landline for work purposes and paying R300 pm , so this combo is looking really cheap now

In my area, the map shows dark purple, for months already. Our area is signed off by the planning department, as the fibre is installed, but it is not connected/activated at the exchange. So when you click on the map, and select your actual street address, it doesn't say "100 Mbps".

It is a mess
