Oh, Hey!

Just an update, I still don't have my fiber.
I have now taken drinking as an occupation in the night to soothe the pain of not being able to watch everything in 4K.
Just jokes, but yeah - I still don't have my fiber. Maybe in lucky month number 3.

:)

So I ordered my Fiber from Openserve on 8 Aug 2017 and the Tech called on 9 Aug 2017 and arrived to do the installation. Unfortunately a new cable needs to be pulled in, so he will be back with before the weekend to complete the install

An Update!
For those that care, at least:

So, my area is finally 'lit' and my installation will commence in early October, so all-in-all, from the day they started digging up my paving till my installation I can round it about to 6 months that it basically takes them to install Fibre.
Oh, then you plus about 5 days for them to get your internet actually on.

Well, I am thus far a happy fella, as some of you have warned about the 6 months, or longer, waiting for Fibre.

The end is in sight.

Good luck to everyone else hoping to get fibre installed soon, may you not turn to alcohol like I did to soothe the pain of running 4mb ADSL.

My experience is that the roll-out of Openserve fibre is slow and confusing, but once it is in, and you are hooked up, the repairs/maintenance teams are great.

My fibre went out and was fixed (physical problem on my site) the next day.

Openserve installed in my street June/July and since there's been people floating around from time to time doing 'various' things.. climbing poles (on my erf as well), playing in manholes, all the normal stuff that go with fibre installations. However , not one of them can tell me when this fibre is going to be 'live', it doesn't appear on openserve coverage, and therefor I'm a bit screwed Any idea who can shed some light on this ?

Good luck with this !

It’s close to 10 months I’m supposedly covered, that I appear as covered on their maps but no coverage.

Their call center tells me I’m covered, the ISPs and Openserve all say I am not and I see a guy once in a while in a manhole or playing around...

Our complex / street has been purple since June. We placed an order beginning of July. We are still not connected. They're probably faster with single residences, but don't hold your breath.

If you click on your house and select your address, does it say "100 Mbps available"?

Yep.

Sorry I probably phrased that wrong - Openserve arrived 2 days after the order to install the distribution box in the complex. We are however still without fibre, as they haven't been back to reticulate apartments, even after many repeated attempts to have them do so.

Well now, I think aside from all the negativity that Mr. Lion experienced, the fact of the matter stands that no one will be able to tell me when I will be blessed with the best invention since 2 Minute Noodles that is Fiber interwebz.

Thank you for everyone's feedback!

I just want to be one of those guys that joins a CSGO Comp and has 5 ping or who can watch the newest movies on 1080p instead of the usual 480p :(
And Yes, I know you can get that with ADSL as well, but my 2mbps area is not going to get that anytime soon.
Besides, saying "I have fiber" is way more exiting when someone asks you what line you have.

Lol we all want that :p - OpenServe does seem to take just that little bit longer ! :/

If anyone ever googles this and wonders how long it takes for Fibre to be installed - and I really do hope this changes in SOME way in the future - Today marks the day that my Fibre was FINALLY installed since I started this thread.

My experience was not bad, I don't think I've actually experienced such a smooth week, however, just getting to this point is what drove me to the alcohol and occasional cigarette.

All jokes aside: 6 Months.
It took them 6 Months to activate my Fiber since the day they came and installed a black box in my yard.

Today, I am a happy boy.

You're lucky. I had fibre for two days then the line went down. Still waiting for them - now 10 days. I've had a couple of calls in that time to ask if I'm happy with the fibre and one to ask when they can come and install...

Muttering on twitter seems to be the only way to get a reaction out of telkom.

My fibre link is back up again.
