I see on home-connect.co.za that openserve will not be doing free ONT installation after July.
Is that the actual bring it and plug it in? Or will we have to start buying the ONT?

Okay so by the looks of it I should've gotten an ONT from openserve when they connected the wallbox ?
Or only when I actually activate it?

If the latter, will I need to now pay seperately for the ONT?

ONT is part of the installation cost, and Openserve has been waiving it. Free installs end in July, they were also supposed to end in June but they extended. So this may be extended again.

Okay...
So does that mean I should've gotten one when they installed the wall box?

Or only when I actually apply for Fibre from an isp?

How much would the ONT cost me outside of their special?

Yeah they will only install it once ordered. The Telkom cost is R2500 excl VAT.

Frik gotta love that when we're forced to use "their" equipment.
Isn't there something anti-competitive about that?

Guess the question then becomes whether they say they are discontinuing free installation because they want people to move over quicker or for legitimate fiscal reasons.

Problem is can one really afford to wait if it's the latter does it really matter :(

It's part of the network and and managed by them, which provider gives you a bare fibre?

@PONDER
No one atm. Was just talking about the ONT. Speaking of, as it is "their" equipment. Are you required to allow the access rights at their discretion to the device?

I'm not sure how the exchange side would work but technically I could have my own Fibre line installed by an independent company.
Though wasn't this ^^ the problem with adsl before unbundling and naked what what(I forget the term now)...

@PBCOOL can you link the page about the 2500 please.
Thinking back iirc the conversation I had with a telkom guy before openserve was rolling out free cable, the 2500 included running the line.

There is no link to the free install, this is offered as wholesale to ISPs and is up to the ISP to charge or not.

The ONT is just a termination device, you would still then plug a router in and dial your PPP to your respective ISP which you then have full access to.
