How are local torrents with uunet - anybody know? I get my content via newsgroups because international is pretty crap so haven't really investigated the local scene.

Though curiosity raises the question - how to score an invite if you're not supposed to know who to ask?

BTW - that wasnt a shameless request for an invite but I am curious as to the local and uunet aspect.

Nah - I wouldn't want to waste someone's invite if uunet blocks local torrents too. :)

last night MrBEEP said to me that he is going to delete haf of my stuff on opentorrent, and i downloaded as much as i can tell this morning, when i woke up the site was down so i couldnt download anything, so now he tells me that he is deleting all my stuff off opentorrent, ITS NOT MY FAULT, he is like the site is up, I CANT EVEN GET ON STILL ON LIKE 5 DIFFERENT PC'S!!!! i mean opentorrent is on his pc, of course he can get on, ITS ON HIS PC!!! HE doesnt conseder if other people can get on or not! So i wasted 2 weeks downloading stuff for nothing, all my cap was wasted do this for nothing!!! Is anyone having this problem getting on the site? Beta testers?
I'm not sure I understand, assuming opentorrent downloads everything to a remote server how was your cap wasted?

i think the reason MrBEEP wants to delete his stuff is because he is just getting everything on the server and not getting the stuff to his pc, and deleting from the server as he is finished

if i'm wrong, then, i'm sorry

i would say it's just a temp storage medium, and you have to get the stuff off the server as fast as possible

just my thoughts

Ok - so he was just storing the stuff remotely? Whats the point of that?

have no idea, i know bandwidth is a bit of a problem, but you get the stuff on the server, keeping in mind that you should have enough bandwidth left to get the stuff to your pc, as fast as possible to free up some space again

Yeah im on the server NOW, finally, well its better then nothing i guess, but mrbeep says half my stuff is gone :(

Well it seems to be UP and DOWN all the time, so its not really my fault i couldnt download the stuff, its seems to be up atm, but its very very slow :( But its still in its beta stages, so it will have its ups and downs and stuff like that

Is it just me or does this OpenTorrent Idea look like a ripoff of TorrentBox?

(Don't even know if it's still active)

I thought that torrentbox downloaded content onto a server kept it there and at a later point you could download it from your "torrentbox". (the same as OpenTorrent?)

:D Must not be reading all the details, my bad :p :o

It did but its not a new idea.

Let's just say, mamacosjd occupies 50% of our server drive. That is about 60GB's, and he keeps downloading new stuff onto the server, but fails to download enough stuff onto his machine. Thus, he will now be limited to a 10GB space to avoid these accusations in the future.

BTW....OpenTorrent can't possibly be on my pc.....South African internet could never handle the bandwidth demands!
