Openview vs DStv

Openview recently announced it had acquired the broadcast rights for the English Premier League.

This move placed the free satellite service provider in the same playing field as DStv, as it can now broadcast Premier League matches live on its News & Sports channel.

Its not in the same playing field.. for that to happen, OpenView should get the rights to broadcast other international sports as well..

Openview is certainly a good alternative to just sabc. The in-laws have it and love it. They are a bit technologically challenged so streaming isn't really a option for them yet.

Can OpenView please add some of the international free to air - RPTi, RT, DW, CCTV, Aljazeera, EuroNews, etc

Installation cost (estimate)R1,599 (HD decoder)R349 (HD decoder)
Why is the OpenView decoder so much more expensive?
Game & HiFi Corp sell the OpenView HD decoder for R499.

just came to say this, looks like they included dish and installation on open view but not on DSTV -

Make sense
Openview R499 + Installation = R1500
DSTV with Installation voucher = R549 (but not R349)

Excuse my noob ness, but I still have my DStv dish still installed, so can I just plug in an OV decoder or does it still need a technician to align the dish etc?

AFAIK Just plug it in , it works on a DSTV dish

Thanks man. Netflix and UK catch up have served me well for a few years now, but the only thing I really miss about old fashioned TV is 24 hours rolling news. Might be worth the R500 for the BBC world news and the odd game of footy.

Good qeustion. I assume there is still a cost associated with broadcasting?

OVHD decoders are R449 at Pep stores, normal price AFAIK. Sometimes on special at R 399 at several places.
OVHD switched off broadcasting from the SES-5 satellite position 5E in Nov 2017, the same one that Starsat, previously Top TV is still using.
OVHD only uses the IS-20 satellite now at 68E, the same one that Dstv is using. So when your dish is aligned for Dstv, you can just plug in an OVHD decoder. Installation of a dish can be done by most DIY persons, only properly aligning the dish to the satellite can be tricky. Maybe better ask somebody with experience or an installer.

Haven't had DSTV in years, is that "Peoples Weather" channel hosted by The Rock?

And now off topic, why have Disqus comments disappeared from MyBB and all other sites that use it. Is this new gov policy ?
Is closing down of the whole internet next ?
