OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

@cableguy,

Feedback on the trial account, everything seems good. Got home early today and was able to open google and my online banking which has been impossible during the day for quite some time.. Hope this can continue...

I must be one of the few people who would be perfectly happy to see OW shape P2P into the ground during the day so that I could surf and stream, but currently even daytime surfing and streaming speeds are iffy. Had to buy a decent router coz my last POS couldn't dial out with more than one account at a time, but at least now I can dial out with my capped account during the day and get decent speeds.

Why-o-why would you need to download torrents during the day.. If everyone could just schedule their downloads for the evenings we would all be better off..

It seems to me that people just leave their torrents running 24/7 which forces ISPs to shape during business hours in order to make provision for business clients.. Boggles the mind..

Not picking on you, just found it strange, except ofcourse if by later you mean after 18:00 or so...

LOL, the KEYword in my post was "TEST"

I'm with you on this one.

In reality nothing should be shaped into the ground and we should not have to put up with certain protocols basically being disabled at any time of the day. If you want to use something you should be able to, regardless of the time of day.

If an ISP finds it necessary to shape something into the ground in order to make other protocols work acceptably, there is a much larger issue on their network somewhere and they are likely oversubscribed.

Cancelled my account last month , was tired of useless daytime speeds. Then this month I questioned my decision because everything suddenly ran smoothly , then this week , back to its old ways and I'm glad I'm done. After hours is a dream , when daytime is sorted I'll be back

So? Where do we go? I was lucky with decent service for the last year or so, but after the last week I'm seriously considering a change.

Until last week we couldn't download during the day, but at least after hours was working. Now that is gone as well.

I also got my trial account earlier last night. I have to say, for the first time ever I can stream Twitch in Source quality without any buffering. Previously I could only watch High quality mode without any buffering. HTTP downloading with a download accelerator maxes my line completely, not to mention NNTP downloads as well. Given that it's weekend at the moment, I'm interested to see how the account performs during business hours. :)

I'm still not sure , gonna give afrihost a try since their cancellation period allows you to cancel during the month you're in. Unlike openweb and mwebs BS calendar month cancellation practice.

Hi StoneCold,

This is great news.

Please keep us updated

I got one of the Titan uncapped accounts during the month and I am not that impressed, supposedly unshaped my download speeds are poor. Downloaded update for Modo from The foundry website at 38 Kbs. Then did an Adobe flash update and I got 62Kb. This seems to be the average. Thursday morning was very bad 3.7KBs my old modem could do better than that. It does not seem to make much of a difference what time of day I use it. Prepaid Afrihost account runs full speed. I am on a 2Mb line.

Here is speedtest result done 10:30 Sunday morning. 0.73 Mbps

Maybe consider moving to a different ISP. Openweb has gone to the dogs...
