OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Full speed here too.

Yeah first thing that comes to mind is standard IS star based uncapped accounts. They shape on a schedule and does not take public holidays into account. Openweb would abviously deny this but yeah the facts speak for itself.

I can actually see into the future and tell you that Thursday morning @ 7AM you will be shaped again just like today. Its IS uncapped shaping.

I thought the same. Just very strange how some users have full line speed on public holidays and others not, there's just no consistancy on any of the accounts imo.

It's being shaped, not throttled. Speedtests are showing fine but NNTP has been shaped to 30kb/s for me...

Guess I have to send an email to ceo-, admin- and [email protected] to get somebody to give me a CP login to get access to this "magic usage tracking tool" to make an informed decision about staying on Gold or move to something capped or somewhere else.

This is not funny anymore.

Everything worked flawlessly over the weekend, but now I'm being shaped pretty badly; and that's just on browsing. Streaming nearly impossible. Haven't worked up the energy to even look at NNTP. Can't even download a 1.7MB file

As per usual, no router problems, no exchange congestion, other ISP accounts (albeit capped) works perfectly.

Pretty normal. For the last 3 months ive been getting 20kb/s constantly all day long on weekdays(including public holidays). As it hits 5 pm, it unshapes.

Dont think there is anything we can do, clearly people just dont no how to run ISP`s in this country, like most ****.

Same old weekday garbage from Openweb.

I like how they're trying to trial the Gold Unshaped Uncapped account and are going to shake up and rebrand their packages.

Unfortunately, what that actually proves is that there is and has been no real discernable difference between the Titan - Gamers - Gold Power - Gold Leon - Gold Original - Gold Banana accounts since their inception, asides from what time their "Shaper" is turned off.

Leaves a pretty bad taste in the mouth considering I've been paying almost double what others have for "up to 2 hours of extra unshaped bandwidth per day..."

So glad to be leaving, good luck to those who stay. Just be warned - you are with an ISP that doesn't see the point of joining the ISPA as a third party organization. To me, that is really really odd.

My Gold unshaped uncapped trial account also performing like a boss:

:D

Don't think speed tests help. I'm on 4mb gamers king, took me over 20 minutes to download the speedtest app to my tablet, which when I ran it reports full speed.

It kinda reminds me of how ati and nvidia optimise their drivers for fps in benchmarks even though games are sucking.

Ok here is a current local speedtest and it is even worse now. I made sure nothing else might be running in the background and my network monitor shows same speed on my lan connection. This might help OW32954 Its so slow its not completing the test.

And here is a speed of me test

Well, speedtests aside, on NNTP I'm pulling 1.08MB/s, on HTTP the same and torrents also nearly maxing my line speed. As things stand currently with this unshaped uncapped trial account, I hope I get to keep it forever, because it's awesome ;)

I take exception to being told to do a speedtest, which ironically shows my account running maximum speed, when I am well aware that throttling/shaping exceptions can be configured for Speedtest.net tests. This is on a very wonky ADSL line barely syncing at 3Mb/s

The iBurst one tells a different story:

Luckily only 2 days left for my Openweb account

You could also give http://speedof.me/ a go...

SpeedOf.Me is an HTML5 Internet speed test. No Flash or Java needed! It is the smartest and most accurate online bandwidth test. It works well on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 8 and other mobile devices, as well as desktop computers.

How It Works

SpeedOf.Me tests your internet connection by directly downloading/uploading sample files from your browser. It reflects your actual browsing and download experience.
Download Test

It begins with downloading the smallest sample size (128 KB). While it shows the real-time bandwidth graph, it also watches the download duration. If it takes less than eight seconds, next sample would be tried otherwise it continues with upload test. Among all downloaded samples only the last one which took more than eight seconds will be accepted and your download speed is actually based on the last sample file.
Upload Test

When the download test is completed, half of the last downloaded sample file will be sent back to the server and the upload speed will be calculated.
