OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Anyone know whats up with NNTP tonight? only getting half speed here which is unusual this time of the night... :erm:

Not once have I said that, but if that's your interpretation then sobeit, I cannot blame you because clearly you receive good during hours performance. What you need to try and understand is that a lot of people don't, and arguing from the point of someone who does happen to receive good service during hours, does not actually help.

What I have observed though, is the inconsistency of lesser accounts performing the same and better, and being unshaped at the same time. I'm more than happy to remain open minded until the questions - which many have expressed intrigue in - get answered.

May you have a lovely evening further.
there are a handful of people with issues. I am not one. Very happy open web customer here.

So we are in agreement that during hours performance is the main issue, and that there are a lot of these complaints.

Some complain - some simply move to another ISP.

I can say this - in all honesty without punting for either view - ..... If I was at home during the day, OW would probably drive me crazy - but for my lifestyle viz. evening / weekend user, OW works for me.

If my needs change - so too would my ISP I s'pose.

Most people go for the lower tiered accounts is because it's cheaper than whats offered at other ISP's and they simply can't afford those prices. I have had the Vanilla and Hero Uncapped accounts that were R99 and R159. They were great for daytime browsing and after hours downloading and when I did have troubles with the accounts, MrBeep and co. used to attend to it faster than any other ISP would respond.. Elsewhere, when I was with Telkom, MWEB and Afrihost, my account was shaped all day and night regardless of how much I complained and those accounts costed twice as much as what I paid for at OpenWeb.

Having lurked here for over 6 months, it's absolutely not a "handful." Which account are you on and how's your during hours performance?

And some do both. :)

Quite a change compared to how you used to feel about OpenWeb a few months back, wouldn't you say? You were a great 'ambassador', I recall all your posts.

This is the point, lower tiered accounts performing better than (or equally) Gold.

There were no general issues last night.

Did it come right?

I'm on Gold original Uncapped and have been for two years.

I don't torrent, I don't download for the sake of downloading. But I do stream, a lot. I find little difference between day and night, I do find a difference between the first week of the month and the rest. First week the local exchanges seem to get a bit clogged at night.

My point is, there is little I can fault with the product and it does what it advertises.

It is a handful. Comically one of the loudest moaners admitted it was his router just the other day.

Good to hear, and I have no doubt there are many happy users. I am not painting everyone with one stick. I am simply going by what is witnessed in this thread.

And yes, equipment can play a role, but it tends to be rare. And most tech-minded people do the checks/swaps.

Have you emailed support with trace routes, speed tests etc? Asked them for a port reset? Have you done a port reset on you line yourself? I know when I have had problems, a port reset, either by OpenWeb or by myself has solved any problems I was experiencing. - just work with support and I'm sure they will get you sorted ;) I always get great speeds during the day and night. Obviously downloads are shaped, but I never find browsing or streaming to be.

lol, one time my Internet was slow and then I realize my TV downloaded an update.

It happens.

:D Sure, last month I had a go at Leon for a slow speed issue - and it turned out my son was downloading some games he had purchased (or at least I hope they not pirated).

Had to go back cap in hand to Leon, say a big sorry brooo, and concede that he is not a DD cup :o.

Greetings,
I'm on leon gold account and it is absolutely horrible today, websites, even mybb, take ages to load, never mind gaming - pings 700-800 or radio streaming - buffers all the time on 128kb stream... W T F?????????
And NO - i dont have any active downloads, torrents downoading or seeding, and I didnt even try to stream youtube today.

Thank you MrBeep for quick and efficient solution! The fault wasn't on OW side.

:D Finally got a new router and OpenWeb is flying! Thanks for the help earlier on MR BEEP

what router did u get?

i may buy the tp-link 8970 afterwork i heard good tings about it

the random dropping was the last...,last night

Probably last post on OW forum moving on. Cancelled my Gold (Power) 2mbps.

IMHO

1. Thank you MR Beep, Zelda, Leon and Team only had good service from you every time.
2. I'm 1 of the " hand full " that did not had good experience with Gold. Will not bore you guys with all the details and ports resets ect. just could not take the inconsistency any more. Will say that when I checked this morning my http download (firmware) only got unshaped at about 2 am this morning and that was after basically not using the internet the whole day.
3. I hope OW will re evaluate the fact that browsing during office hours gets shaped with downloads even on the superior accounts as that is probably my main reason for leaving OW.
4. Im going to try a different isp uncapped if it works great if not then will thinking of going capped as then I will know uncapped is not suitable for me.

Hope you all the best.

325i: Have I seen you on BF4? The Taccor Gaming server maybe? I am WNL9.
