OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

My account has been performing normally most of the time, but I did have issues every now and then and I fully understand the frustration that brings.

But the way people have been losing their minds have been pissing me off to no end. Rather than taking a methodical approach and sussing things out, one aspect at time, you get people jumping onto every bit of new information, drawing all sorts of conclusions and then shirting on anyone's head who dare call for some rationality. I said early on that you guys are behaving like a lynch mob and you certainly drove that point home.

I have never denied that there have been issues, nor that accounts were shared when some actual proof was provided. I also never claimed to know everything about the industry, but kept trying to figure it out. But at every turn I get hammered for not immediately jumping on the bandwagon.

What we are left with now is that a major support avenue for OW customers has been ruined by the howling nonsense that this thread has turned into. There ARE still a lot of happy OW customers and you have screwed the lot of us, while some of you aren't even OW customers yourselves. I can understand being frustrated, trying to help out and getting to the bottom of things, but what you have done here has helped nobody. People were always free to pack up and leave for another ISP at any point.

I am now forced to look for another ISP where I will be paying more for the same thing, while having to wait for a month for the cancellation to go through. You should feel ashamed of yourselves, but instead you'll be patting yourselves on the back for being so "clever". I have had enough of this.

I freaking hate people.

You are unbelievable mate.

You are seriously blaming the people with honest verifiable negative feedback for the demise of Openweb?

You need to get real at some point.
The demise of Openweb in whichever way here or overall sits solely at its own door.

There has been a steadily growing impetus over the years where people have been calling Bull5h*t on many of the responses Openweb have been touting.

I for one am glad to see some consumer activism that followed the course. In all matters one should seek the truth. And it should be a shrill alarm bell for all when there is a party that tries to suppress the investigation & pursuit of it.

Most aren't happy to see a failed company that once was heralded as a harbinger of innovation in this sphere.

The truth will set you free, but first it will p1ss you off.

You are being disingenuous by saying you have to leave because of others' actions.

It would be nice if you could stop making assumptions based on a lack of information. :)

My account does blaze all day, every day. After my p2p issues were resolved last week I haven't seen the speeds dip below 80% line speed even once. This is pretty consistent with the performance I've had on this account for the past two years.

That's... because everyone leaving or left already. Sharers gone :p

Your post and conclusion is nothing but laughable. You blaming people who found proof of dishonesty, and complained based on their service for Openwebs retraction from the public spot light? And you still think they doing business honestly? You would rather have them screw 3/4 of their customer base and have you be one of the 5% that are happy with your account.

Thats called selfish mate.

High ping to international servers on my OW account yet again (yes, the flatmate has reverted to the other account at the flat). I was wondering why none of my MMOs were connecting again today. Switch over to a Telkom capped account and no issues at all.

:/

Insane pings, packet loss, pages taking forever to download. Ridiculous.

When you go and say things like "My account blazes(FTFY) all day" yet you have numerous posts before stating the exact opposite, it makes people take what you say less seriously.

So tell me again how your Gold Original account "blazes" all day again please, I could use a good chuckle.

@Wackyza I think its been established that this hostage will take a bullet for his captors... :p

This. But understandable if there are a few one-off problems. Hell, I also had one of these 'nice' accounts.

Zewp, how were your p2p issues resolved? By them self?

It's a shame to see OW having these issues that seem to be affecting most of its clients. As much as I left OW for having a crappy Gold account that was unusable during the day, at the time it seemed that I was in the minority. Now this coming mass exodus of people will only put strain on other ISPs' networks. I beg you people, please don't flock to my ISP. It sucks :D.

Your inability to read astounds me. :)

It seems the issues are not only limited to my Openweb account. I'm now getting high, unstable latencies on the Telkom capped account as well. I guess there's probably an issue in the area.

Oh sigh.

It keeps fluctuating. Earlier this morning I was getting 400ms pings to Cape Town servers. :/

Hmm, thanks for all the speedtests. It's probably something in my area then. I'll ring up Telkom and hear if there's a fault in my area.

Oh bloody hell. No wonder. My parents got home from Namibia yesterday and they're transferring photos from one iPad to another. Instead of doing it locally like normal people, they're doing it over the internet, so there's about 10gb of photos uploading at 50kb/s. :/

Sorry to both Telkom and Openweb. Brainfart on my side.

Are we chuckling yet?

No one's forcing you to do anything. You are welcome to email OW support and swallow their BS with the greatest of pleasure.

As I said, I acknowledge the issues and I'm with you guys on them. Just stop lynching anyone who says they're not having a terrible experience with Openweb. We're not lying nor do we have Stockholme Syndrome.

For reference, my account right now. I'll post a few more speedtests as the day progresses.

1mb Gold Uncapped running on a 2mb ADSL line. Costs me R258 a month seeing as I got it on special for that price in 2011. It'll probably stop bursting less as the day progresses.

Well last nite AFTER 20:00 battlelog was lagging like crazy to load , loaded up my afrihost capped and worked perfectly .
I will be contacting the accounts department to cancel my account .

/snip *not worth the effort*

Yes I am chuckling at you, becoz you son are a turn coat.
1 minute OW is great the next its shyte.

Do you remember how crap your torrents are or did you parents pics finally finish uploading?

I didn't jump onto anything
Here is my history

Had issues, cancelled before, then Keoma gave me a new account so I gave him another chance.
From December when I moved over to OW, things were OK, the trouble started in January.
Then in March OW convinced me "the Telkom line must be faulty"
TelkomZA (Charl) can attest to how much holy hell I raised, and in the end, my line is PRETTY DAMN GOOD, all we did was replace the router to solve the random disconnects issue. Telkom also revealed to me who was sharing my line, which in retrospect they kind of back-tracked on because they knew they busted the good Dr and his little scheme.
With a new router, and a stable Telkom line, I was experiencing utterly p1sspoor speeds during the day, imagine trying to send an important document via GMail, and it won't upload. By far the biggest thing was the iPad constantly bitching "App Store Unavailable/iTunes unavailable" .I never got anywhere close to 8Mbit/sec. I was consistently led to believe my line cannot go faster than 8032kbps, when in fact Charl proved it can synch up to 20Mbit.

Two weeks ago, I had finally had enough, and paid another ISP, on a Saturday morning, for ADSL. The moment that username password was entered into my router I got full line speed, on a FREAKING TORRENT no less!!. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE, neither with Cybersmart, or MWEB, or OpenWeb, attained 1.032MByte/sec on a well-seeded torrent. And I won't state the obvious that I have never since, seen the issues with the iPad, nor with GMail.

I am a technical person, and I know that Keoma is bullsh*tting me and yourselves, it is obvious.

Don't go editing your posts, mate. I saw it anyway.

Sorry I didnt have the time to go back and read all of your comments I just selected a few I'd found on the recent pages.
If your line doesn't perform when using another account then its obvious you have other issues at hand and not your ISP.
So how is it that your account is blazing when now it seems your line is the issue.
So you see you cant be blazing all the time when you obviously have line/exchange issues.

1 minute OW is great the next its shyte.

I'm honestly not sure what the bloody hell you're asking here. We've established the line wasn't the issue. I was experiencing high pings and packet loss and thought it was Openweb at fault. Then I switched to Telkom Internet, which must have somehow disrupted the upload because then my pings were fine. Later my parents resumed the upload and I started experiencing unstable latencies on the Telkom account as well, after which I figured out it was the iPad uploading to iCloud that was causing it.

I'm not sure which part of this you don't understand.

I'm now chuckling at you, because you're just a typical lynchmobber. Lynch lynch lynch.

Do you remember how crap your torrents are or did you parents pics finally finish uploading?

And the p2p issues righted themselves a few days after they started. No idea what caused them. While I was experiencing p2p issues, the rest of my account was performing normally, btw.

Sorry I said that I'm not currently having any issues with my account. Next time I'll lie and claim my account is running at 5kb/s instead of being honest. :)

With the new ISP, local speed test on speedtest.mybroadband.co.za, hits very close to 10Mbit/sec
International is variable, but I am not complaining because the speed I get from BitTorrent exceeds that anyway.

For those that doubt, I will put up images tonight of actual speed tests i.e. screenshots then you can judge for yourselves.

Koosi

I am not denying that there are problems. If you have been having problems, it needs to be fixed and if it can't, leave and try another ISP. You have done that and that is great. There is no doubt that there have been problems with some people's accounts. I understand that and understand your concern and frustration. You had your account shared with another guy and that would piss me off as well.

My problem is with the whole shared accounts thingy and the way people have been carrying on. There have been 2 or three actually confirmed cases of it happening. Now that get's extrapolated into a major effort by OW to screw it's clients, with anybody calling for calm and an effort to figure it out step by step getting crapped on. That is what pisses me off.

And now the howlers have screwed the rest of us who have been having good service.

Here are my speedtests at the moment:

International: http://www.speedtest.net/result/3511624500.png

Chuckle all you want it dont faze me. You were complaining of poor torrents before your parents got back from Namibia.
I dont have time to go back and quote your posts but I remember your complaints of poor speeds.

Lynchmobber LMAO did you learn that in Stockholm?

Fact: Blowing the great Dr wont get you faster speeds

No need to worry... OW isn't a ISP
Simple facts:

OK, let's see if OpenWEB is an actual ISP...

1.) Is openweb an ISPA member? http://ispa.org.za/membership/list-of-members/

NO

2.) Does OpenWEB have an ECNS or ECS license?
https://www.icasa.org.za/Portals/0/Regulations/Licensees/Individual/I-ECS&ECNS-Database_0711.pdf

NO

3.) Does OpenWEB have IP address space, or an ASN (autonomous systems number)
http://www.afrinic.net/services/whois-query

NO

OpenWEB is not an ISP. They simply resell other ISP's network access.

"Unscrupulous" indeed, when the people that are supposedly throttling the internet access is simply the ISP that OpenWEB chose to buy accounts from.

Pot. Kettle. Oh wait. OpenWEB isn't even a kettle, or a pot.
