OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

mr Beep, while I know OW doesn't officially support 3rd party DNS servers, can you please recommend one for Netflix. I'm currently experiencing low quality (360p) on my AppleTv using unotelly - and this is on my 4mb line during unshaped times.

Which servers? I used to use primary as Cape Town secondary as London, but I discovered Cape Town server isn't working anymore so changed to Jhb one as my primary.

Kindly drop us a mail so that we can see what is wrong.

I do know Telkom just sent out a huge amount of notices of errors across the country

Looks like the problem sorted itself out.

anybody else having issues playing online games right now.... its beens crappy speeds the whole week :(

Yeah I am having a terrible time of it this evening. Cannot even logon to GW2 right now it's so bad (but just had 2 nice LoL games, weird).

Been having some choppy streams tonight while watching twitch.. dunno whats going on there again

Speeds slightly iffy tonight. Can normally stream smoothly at 720p on Twitch but had to drop it to 480p.

Hey zolly,

Did the problem restore itself?

There is a large number of Telkom errors open currently, and even more last night which could have caused some issues for folks

Hi Mr. Beep,

The problem did resolve itself about 40 minutes or so after I posted.

Thanks

Already using JHB one with London as backup.

Howdy folks, Might be a little off topic but not sure, tried good old google but no luck, maybe im not l33t enough with searches.

Anyhow problem is this I've got a Netgear DG834G, every day/second day My router seems unresponsive.

No connection to the outside world, and when I try access router it webpage is unresponsive and I'm forced to give it a hardboot.

It's so annoying aaargh.

Any ideas?
Is router busy saying goodbye?

thanks

Might be a good idea to stick it in to bridged mode and test via dialling a connection from your PC.

Hi

I have a DG834G v5 that does the same thing... the firmware update helped for a while, but it then returned to its old unresponsive ways.
Resetting it then to its defaults helped for a while, but again it did the same thing after not too long a time.
I replaced it more than a year ago after getting tired of resetting it every 3rd day.

I would check which version of the DG834G you have and look for latest firmware... might sort you out for a while ?

thanks for the feedback gents, appreciated :)

Will give all of the above a go.

Seeing that it might be firmware, views on Custom Firmware?

Hmmmm... it all will depend on just which DG834G you have.

IIRC there is no Tomato support for this but limited OpenWRT;
OpenWRT - http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/dg834g

I would give the Netgear official firmware a go first tho.

Do these do bridged mode ? I do not remember seeing this option on mine ? Maybe model specific then ?

I had a DG834G v3 a few years back and it could do bridged mode if I remember correctly. It got nailed by lightning though so I can't check for you. Modem gave me endless problems though. If the noise on my line dropped below a certain value it just outright refused to allow any data transmission.
