OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Ok, thanks for the prompt response. I will give it a few more days and get in touch with the office if it persists.

I'm on Gold Power and don't use RDP for any downloads - I do maintain RDP connections throughout the day as I work from home but I don't think there is much traffic involved (most of my daytime usage is probably the odd youtube video when I get bored of working - youtube is working splendidly during the same period, incidentally).

When Leon asked me to give him my World of Warcraft 'Twilight's Hammer" server IPs, I used Peerblocker (normally used in conjunction with p2p) to see which IPs were being used while I logged in and played for a few seconds. After geolocating them all, I gave him a list of all the IPs that were coming from France (where I know my server is). A day later, my pings were much better (this was about a year ago).

It's far more accurate than collecting IPs from forums / websites, in my opinion.

Just chiming in here. I have tried to do this with GW2 (not the peerblocker thing) but as Keoma says, there's always one more IP. What I noticed with GW2 though is that it always has the same first 3 bits.

Recently picked up D3 again this week and have sometimes had horrible latency (400 to 1200ms) but then after resetting router (sometimes multiple times) it has come right to the usual 180-200ms. I have seen people complaining of latency spikes in general sometimes, but I think this is also due to a large number of people returning to the game.
 
I think GW2's problems stem from their own servers, tbh. ArenaNet has always done things cheaply and I wouldn't be surprised if their servers are sub-par. When even internationals are complaining about lag spikes, I think it's safe to say the problem is not on our side.

It's a pity, because it's a really good game otherwise.

Thats a cool tip about peer blocker, but a way more reliable way to get IPs for diablo 3 specifically is to open an extended command prompt by opening cmd as admin and typing netstat -n. this will give you a quick list of active connections, the IP and respective port. D3 connects with a paired IP on port 1119 and they look a little something like this:

TCP 192.168.1.102:60830 80.239.208.193:1119 ESTABLISHED
TCP 192.168.1.102:60961 80.239.210.193:1119 ESTABLISHED

hopefully this helps some players identify problem IPs You will only get an accurate reading while actively in game, not in menu.

Well to be fair, they don't have that many EU servers for D3 and the America servers seem to be fine, but that aside, thanks for trying. Going through Blizzards support to see if the issue is on their end is a bit of a nightmare.
 
I also get latency spikes every now and then and have even been kicked off of a server for having too high a ping on local servers (BF4). Recreating the port usually fixes it though, for a while at least.

Also busy downloading Second Assault at the moment at just under 40% speed, which is acceptable.

Unless you're on lower tier accounts. I asked for my other Titan uncapped account to be moved to the @openweb.co.za account and was told that the low end tiers get whatever they're assigned to and nothing more. My Gold, however, was moved without issues.

Is there any more movement on the Diablo 3 thing? I can't play the game at the current state of things, and this is with the Gamers account.

I have for the first time ever watched YouTube in full HD. I always knew that option was there, but I could barely stream 360p. Telkom have finally come to the party...

Hey Squirrel. I've also got issue connecting to certain international sites. ie, google mail and youtube, but I can reach cnn.com for instance. MRBeep, any ideas? I've restarted router, and I can access the sites via 3G. I'm also from Cape Town.

I heard from a friend at a corporate that uses IS and they having international issues too. Maybe related, they also in CPT. I tried from home and could get to some sites not others like yourself, maybe the sites we can get to are using a CDN and there is a node locally. Glad I am at work.
Don't wanna spread rumours but .... maybe the same issue .... I see the WebAfrica network status page is saying there is international connectivity issues on ADSL for Cape Town users.
