OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Hi thomas

Please drop me a PM. Let me have a look at this for you

No reply to my previous post...

There is shaping and then there is unacceptable... 20kbps and less on my 10mbps line is unacceptable.

Please don't make me turn green, you wouldn't like me when I am... lol

Yeah I am not going to lie, on a 10mbps line I expect better...

I see all ISP's are having some kind of issues at the moment though... ai...

Cableguy is helping me out so let's see what comes out of this.

Never been better here on MWEB. :D

just asking again.

what will be better when i have 6mbps

10mbps everyday
or
4mbps power gold

they both cost the same,so just wondering

I do not agree with throttling at all...

I dont tend to use more than 150 to 250 gig per month, most of the time even less.

BUT I feel that if an ISP throttles then it is NOT UNCAPPED as there is basically a limit on the data that you can use at the speed that you pay for.

Shaping is understandable although it is not exactly ideal.

I happen to think the throttling policies are quite fair - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=105846&d=1394998321.

If you need more, then OW is definitely a better choice.

I don't necessarily agree with it either, and I don't think anyone would. If it ensures consistent, full speed internet, day and night, and not shaped to death in the day, then it's debatable. But I don't use more than the limit, so my disagreement is moot. If I was a big downloader, and used the internet after hours mainly, I'd definitely still be with OpenWeb.

consistent, full speed internet, day and night
= Capped internet

I download a reasonable amount and I am at work during the day in the week and on weekends I am at the beach surfing, playing paintball or just gaming online... So I tend to mainly use my internet at night.

Maybe the everyday package is better than the lower speed gold package - 10% of a 10Mbps is better than 10% (or even 20%) on a 4mbps. The community never concluded on whether the contention ratios are as promoted/advertised by OpenWeb(based on previous arguments), but there is also that, that you need to take into consideration (although 10% of 10mpbs > 20% of 4mbps)

ya thats what i also think

even when i get half the account speed 10=5mbps close to my 6mbps line
where the 4=2 and that wont be good

with the 10 my account only needs to run at 60% of the speed :P to get "full speed"

But then you sit with the possibility of throttling which is a BIG no no for most people.

Not if your monthly usage is consistent, and under the throttling limits which are known now, unlike in the beginning where they were unknown.

If you know you use more than the limit, obviously MWEB won't be good for you, and OpenWeb is probably the next best bet.

For example, you know that you use 150 - 250GB monthly. MWEB Standard uncapped = 250GB, Premium = 950GB.

Please do not take offense but I am tired of this now. This is not an mweb thread and as previously posted it is coming across like you are trolling this thread! We did NOT ask for your input or advice on a ISP or your recommendation of mweb.

No one here would be happy with throttling! That does not equate to uncapped.
