OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Thanks to everyone for the help and assitance. My internet is better now, i can atleast go on youtube now, 240p ftw :D Now to wait for 5pm for shaping to go away for good. :)

5 PM. 11 PM. Depends what you want to do. At least most services start speeding up from 5.
 
...looking forward to full speeds from 5 today for the entire long weekend, as most businesses have closed shop from earlier this afternoon :)
 
I remember the good old days of actually getting more than 10% of your line speed for stuff like streams, during office hours. Why did the IPL games have to start at 16:30? Have to basically read the first 30 minutes of the game on ESPNcricinfo, because 40KBps isn't enough to keep the SuperSport stream going without buffering every 5 seconds. The 'shaper' seems really flawed if you consider I'm only browsing and haven't downloaded a single thing all day.

Seriously hate my internet in office hours. Thank goodness I don't work from home.
Yes, it kicks so much ass after 5PM, but damn.... It's just so unbalanced. It's like one of those super sensitive bathroom taps. Open it a bit and just a couple drops. Open it a bit more and you're looking down at a wet crotch area on your pants.

Finally...a reply to my pointing out that 2 MyBB members with Silver/Gamer accounts are experiencing similar performance to my Gold account:

Shaping is dynamic based on how busy the network is at any given time.

Overall, you are getting a greater throughout than these accounts.

Your account also features redundancy in case of a network event, as well as capacity on 3 x international cables opposed to the 2 x the other accounts feature

Clearly I'm an idiot for thinking that several nights of complete unshaping at the precise same point late in the evening was anything but traffic related. :whistle:

Honestly I'm done fighting with these guys if they want to obfuscate the issue in useless suggestions and excuses then they really have turned into another MWEB...in which case it's time to move on.

Escalated to Keoma since he's the only one that seems to be able to resolve or understand these issues in the past.

Agreed, my internet was okish earlier but then i went to the shop and came back. Hello its back to being shapped to death, what gives openweb? My afrihost account is flying as all day but openweb is crawling... Ping is the same on both tho but download speed is wtf.

International upload/download is total crap but local is running... Nice one like we use local websites, all games and streams and downloads are all international, you expect us to sit with internet like this all damn weekend?

Please do explain this, ill be patiently waiting for a explanation to this.

Weird, that ping on the international test looks very high. I'm getting 160ms on my side (to the MyBB Int speedtest).
 
I believe it is time OpenWeb hangs a "sold out" sign next to their uncapped account listing on their website
 
Gold Leon uncapped 10mbps here, smooth surfing but downloads speeds shaped to ~40%

I don't want to offend anyone, but, this sounds like an assumption.

We all know what assumptions are: "Assumptions are the mother-of-all-****ups!"

Unless one is coming from a place of personal experience, one should keep ones' opinions' to themselves', as it's just hearsay at the end of the day.

From my personal experience, yes ISP's have issues, but don't make the mistake of grouping ALL of them into the "internet sucks" corner!

There are greener pastures, trust me, I've found mine (plural), and stop fooling yourself otherwise.

Personally, my opinion is: stay away from ISP's that need to have a "sticky" status (due to the extreme activity of complaints - (IMO)) on the forums, so that's AH, OW and TI, I have to include Mweb (just out of moral principle :)), and choose the threads that are the quietest.

That's my 2c :) Makes sense?

Hey since I last posted my speeds have gone up from 10 percent line speed to 15 percent line speed. No response to my support ticket either.
