Been with OW for many years now. Had countless new accounts. Its a pain, but you can do a lot worse than OW, trust me on that.
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
@ cableguy.
Please can you look into the following for me.
I have also been shaped into the ground. This includes almost no browsing during the and slower downloads that usual during night times. I thought that maybe I had been throttled due to reaching some sort of download limit or something (hence I asked how/where I can monitor/see my usage)
Looking through the results at saix.net, it was apparent that I am not the only one connecting to my Open Web account. I did a test and signed up for a free AXXESS account, which I have been using from Sunday night, just before midnight.
You can clearly see here: http://imgur.com/E4KaxIg that whoever Ip 196.215.29.83 belongs to, is very happily\and has been for a while, downloading on the same account as myself.
You can also see that that ip is using up way more bandwidth that I do.
Some questions if you don't mind:
How is it possible for another user to have the same account as myself ?
Am I being shaped/throttled/punished for the excessive use on "my" account, as a result of the other user's download/browsing habits ?
Thanks.
Account sharing, yet again.
I'm wondering how many people know that OpenWeb accounts allow for two concurrent connections?
If that is the case, clearly whomever i'm sharing my account with is getting the better end of the deal here, looking at the downloads he/she is has been doing![]()
I did not know that

Ye the account sharing story is quite interesting. Last time I saw MrB33p on this forum was when we discussed that. Since then he has been gone and the whole story has been swept under the rug.
/me puts on conspiracy costume and takes out popcorn.

MrBEEP is currently on vacation, hence his absence from the thread :erm:
Not a sticky anymore?

Yes exactly. He went on vacation when we last had the account sharing discussion. Pretty long vacation if you ask me![]()
I'm guessing this has something to do with Cableguy's response about communicating through official channels first.
Tbh it seems that they're doing this for one reason and one reason only: it's a lot easier for them to control. This thread has been quite negative over the last few weeks. If they force people to put their complaints through on their official system, it's a lot easier for them to manage and keep track of them, but it also allows them to control any bad press their image might be taking due to the complaints here. It's quite likely that they are motivated by both reasons, and so for now people should log their complaints through the official channels.
If you get no help, just do what everyone else does. Log a complaint on Hellopeter, which will have a lot more impact than posting here on this forum.
He's definitely back. Could also be using the cableguy account (MrBEEP v2.0).
Here are the last posts which did indeed coincide with the last time account sharing was brought up - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...read-(Pt2)?p=12272462&highlight=#post12272462.
I encourage all concerned to read from that post on. This will prevent another attempt at under-the-carpet sweeping up.
Feels like deja vu. I am not trolling or anything but I don't like it when consumers are taken for a ride. I don't take this lightly. I am not saying that the account sharing story is FACT, however since the beginning of last month there has been no form of facts negating from the account sharing issue. It seems to resurface itself and then slowly but surely its buried by die hards who are ok to pay and use it blindly. :erm:
Asks me for a username and password and when I enter my OW one is doesnt accept itUnfortunately it's still easy to check for account sharing via http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/, and I'd love to see OpenWeb approaching SAIX to try and have them block OpenWeb account stats.
