OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Mine is working, but I am not in the mood to switch on my netbook to see if usage is on par.

Usage is one thing, account sharing is another. One isn't looking at usage when confirming account sharing, only times of connections, connection overlapping, and IPs.

Unfortunately it's still easy to check for account sharing via http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/, and I'd love to see OpenWeb approaching SAIX to try and have them block OpenWeb account stats.

It was a fail on OpenWeb's behalf; denying customers with access to information in this way, really shows that they do now care about transparency.

RE: saix userstats
What should one be seeing here? Only one IP address?

I'm getting an IP address in my range (Cape Town) and then a PE IP address. The IP address in my area roughly corresponds with my usage pattern, whereas the PE IP address is around 20% of that.

Ok, so looking at my sessions this is what I can see.

The account I'm using has been active for many months now, even though cableguy only gave it to me 3 weeks ago (as I was getting the usual poor performance on mine).

If you look at the sessions you'll notice that at any given time there's two active ip addresses coming from vastly different geographic locations.

However, it's only ever 2 ip addresses at one time. Over the last few months the account has been shared between numerous different ip addresses.

Is this not definitive proof that our accounts are being shared?

Here's a list of all the ip's, and their locations, that have connected to my account over the past few months:

196.210.114.197 Bellville, Western Cape
196.215.187.59 Edenvale, Gauteng
196.210.113.82 Paarl, Western Cape
196.215.179.2 Bellville, Western Cape
196.215.187.104 Edenvale, Gauteng
196.210.105.200 Strand, Western Cape
196.215.187.50 Edenvale, Gauteng
196.215.161.28 Bellville, Western Cape
196.215.177.221 Cape Town, Western Cape
196.210.119.42 Johannesburg, Gauteng
196.210.105.123 Strand, Western Cape
196.215.177.253 Kuils River, Western Cape
196.210.105.61 Strand, Western Cape
196.215.186.176 Johannesburg, Gauteng
196.210.122.237 Johannesburg, Gauteng
196.215.163.37 Strand, Western Cape

Well, in April, up to today, there was about 4 days that there was 4, 3 and 2 concurrent connections.

Not bothering me now, but I had to wait 10 min to dl a windows update of 380KB.

I stand by my statement that something is fishy here. :P I still want a concrete explanation for the multiple geographic locations of connections.

How do you get the geographic location?

Wait a second! My bad! Looking through my pm's I realized it's the same account. Cableguy just changed the password!

Either way, the rest of my post still stands...

i been down the same road with mr beep about this last year
and all i got was dont use it its not accurate and that they dont share accounts

Why not just admit it? I mean all it takes is an e mail and they put you on a different account and then its fine so really who cares, yes its a pain but other than that I would be happy.

Perhaps the person who owns the account... Or at least used it first, and is under the impression it's theirs only.

If you're getting a new account then there's no problem.

But all accounts should be new. It is sickening that customers are taken advantage of even more than the daytime shaping they are subject to.
