I am beginning to worry... How come my password that would have been "changed by the system" is the exact one mentioned a few threads back...? These answers are contradicting one another.
We try and not use pool accounts often with manual assignment, but when things get busy, it is the easiest way of getting a username to the client.
If you signed up with a credit card, and opted for instant activation, it will definitely be a pool account. The system has no other way of delivering it.
If you signed up via any other method, it will probably be a new account that is manually created by provisioning. In this case, a default password can be used if a stronger username is assigned.
We do advise clients to change their passwords regularly though.
But no option for this exists on legacy accounts without the request to have this activated IIRC
So I have a "pool account" with a generic password. What service level is allocated to a pool account and what precisely is the difference if i had purchased the account via, e.g. debit order?
When a user is moved to another username, the profile they have purchased is attached to the username along with the necessary routing changes. Do you have access to the CP? This too should contain your full product description...
...The current system, written quite a few years ago re-uses usernames as it was an easy way to pre-load usernames into a pool, which would then be ready for instant activation. Our CP did not latch into an API in the past, therefore available usernames were loaded onto the system, and could be instantly assigned when a client orders with a credit card.
Now of course, we link into the core systems directly, which renders this an old way of doing things, and will be done away with when the new CP launches.
When I logged into the CP it showed the original username and password from a year ago. It was only updated yesterday when I asked again to have the password change ability activated.
Thanks for explaining. But surely a few hundred thousand usernames could have been pre-loaded into the various pools? Also, the process you described seems to allow a race condition that would lead to the CP handing out the same username more than once. Good thing the new system will be launching in the future.
The service level you order is assigned to the 'pool' username.
Eg, if you order Everyday Uncapped, that profile is loaded to the username.
Okay, so just got confirmation from the guys with the identical login credentials. The one has a 2mbps account and the other has a 4mbps account. They're in different classes of product as well, the 2mbps being a flavour of Gold and the other being Titan or similar.
That was the waveform I spoke about the other day.
Listen mate, nobody stole my password. Not even my wife knows what the login details are for this ADSL.To recap:
* We run our own network capacity powered by our first tier supplier.
* There are very few accounts left that use the standard 'resell' model
* We do not share accounts. We share capacity.
* We pay for capacity. Therefore, sharing accounts on purpose would be pointless
* We do not log usage stats by default. If you would like your stats logged, kindly email [email protected] so that it can be activated
* Account theft is a reality. All ISP's suffer from this. We suggest you request regular password changes on your account to prevent this from happening. Also please keep the firmware in your router updated.

I went to speak to the owner of said petrol station. He has no clue what I am on about, but he says that if there is any funny business he will go to court to testify. I said I am not going to waste good money chasing bad service providers, its just easier to vote with my wallet.
We do not purchase capacity through this provider.
Please only monitor usage stats by using an OpenWeb usage monitoring tool.
Wow. Got my new "Special" account earlier today. Speed was better during the day. Tonight however, NNTP speed ranges between 4B/s and 4 KB/s. I miss my dialup account i had with ICON in 1997. I was faster than what i get now on a GOLD account with OpenWeb. I am sorry I did not cancel my account earlier in the week, as I will have to live with this for another 2 months.
Login Details for my account on 01 April:

In April Ive been uploading to OneDrive - 100GB to do in total.
I'm pretty sure you do. SAIX is Telkom Internet. I was on one of these SAIX accounts in 2012 but due to incredibly poor P2P performance, I left it.
We do not use SAIX at all.

Anyone else crawling along at nothing more than 60kb on NNTP this evening?
Wait, it's now dropped and averaged to 28kb...
