OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

So now there is direct proof of account sharing which has been denied for months, and its being labled as a once of system bug. Lol. It once off happened alot then over the past few years because those posts PostmanPot posted were in 2007.

I do not believe this to be a mere bug.

Edit: also there has been no explanation why the same account is given two people on different service levels? That cant be a system error. It raises multiple questions relating to the actual existance of different service levels apart from the basic standard, gold and platinum?

Okay, so just got confirmation from the guys with the identical login credentials. The one has a 2mbps account and the other has a 4mbps account. They're in different classes of product as well, the 2mbps being a flavour of Gold and the other being Titan or similar.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Titan was one of the most, if not the most 'entry level' service level. :erm: One loses track.

The service level you order is assigned to the 'pool' username.

Eg, if you order Everyday Uncapped, that profile is loaded to the username.

Yep, there have simply been far too many different packages through the years for me to accept that I'm still on exactly what I was when I started off. I'm on a premium account and my performance is great, but I find this entire situation unsettling.

Max speed 17 kbytes/sec.... like living under apartheid.
Let me guess, them bean counters in Bryanston are downloading HUGE Excel Spreadsheets containing whole movies and filing tax returns with embedded videos of Game of Thrones.

I have decided, again, to can this crap. However it will remain until any new ISP can satisfy me. Afrihost gives good speeds, until something goes wrong and then you're on your own :(

It is truly a sad day when not only is Telkom trying to hamstring the internet, but the ISPs are doing it aswell.
Now before I rant further, let me do some work...

Why-o-why would you need to download torrents during the day.. If everyone could just schedule their downloads for the evenings we would all be better off..

It seems to me that people just leave their torrents running 24/7 which forces ISPs to shape during business hours in order to make provision for business clients.. Boggles the mind..

Not picking on you, just found it strange, except ofcourse if by later you mean after 18:00 or so...

I have on a few occasions left my downloads running during the day and not because I download 24/7 but because I either have stuff backlogged or its a large download. Also internet shouldn't be limited to after hours? When did it become a thing to only find it acceptable to use YOUR internet after hours? If you are fine with being shaped to hell during the day and want to leave you stuff running then by all means go for gold.

I guess you are in your right to use it like that, I just think if everyone does their part we can all have a more effectively utilized network. It is an obvious fact that capacity is a problem for all ISPs due to the fact that they need to be competitive and still make a living...

Obviously the ideal would be to have full capacity at all times but the ISPs' prices are way to low for this to be feasible (from the looks of it)...

I could be totally wrong and off base here.

Can't believe it's been so quiet.. All the entertainment is gone...

This is the biggest load of bull I've heard today. The onus should NOT be on the customers to make life easier for ISPs. If I want to download a torrent during the day, I damn well will. I won't expect full speeds during business hours, but I shouldn't have to exclusively download at night just because the ISPs oversubscribe their networks and can't handle the load.

What you're effectively doing is taking away accountability from the ISPs and giving customers responsibility that they should not be shouldering at all. It's not my job to ensure the network is effectively utilized. That's the ISP's job. If they don't have the capacity to provide everyone with an acceptable level of service, they shouldn't be taking on new clients. You always hear about how there's not enough capacity but ISPs can't wait to sign on new clients, like what Afrihost is currently doing. They don't have enough capacity in Cape Town but they keep signing on new clients instead of halting new subscriptions until the problems are sorted out.

Don't blame customers for actually using their internet. Blame ISPs for oversubscribing it. I'm currently downloading a torrent and I'll be damned if anyone expects me to stop it and only start again this evening. I'm using the internet I pay for.

That is exactly what PROPER shaping is meant to solve. When I was with MWEB I could download any time of the day albeit at slower speeds during the day and browsing was always at normal speeds. Browsing was never [-]throttled[/-] shaped due to a download.
 
I have a 4mb connection account that's expiring at the end of the month and am not using so anybody that's being shaped into the ground so you can't even access gmail (but don't have telkom problems, ie; other accounts work fine) pm me if they want it.

I've re-evaluated my standpoint and agree with you.. I'm just trying to think of ways to solve this since the shaping is not working correctly on a large amount of accounts..
