OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. Got to love it.

Weekday - Check.
During office hours - Check.
Public holiday - Check.
Gold account - Check.
OpenWeb shaping - Check.

I'm over the Moon that I'm leaving OpenWeb at the end of May.

We are in the exact same boat. My gold account will be done at the end of this month..

These new unshaped accounts are on the MTN backbone no?

If so, why go with an ISP that make's it a mission to cancel and forces you to ride out 30+ days?

Rather go with AH or Axxess, and they're cheaper :wtf:

I really don't get some people. They're over the moon with openweb's new 'unshaped' product... that happens to cost more than it does elsewhere, from a company which has seemingly no support service, engages in unethical business practices, and an insulting 30 calender notice period (before the 25th of the month, otherwise it's 2 months)..

Someone mentioned on one of the previous pages that it's Stockholm Syndrome. I'm not sure if they realize just how accurate that may be..

I take full credit for that comment :D

Right, had enough of this Titan 4mb uncapped.
OW speeds less then 50kbps today...
Mweb running at 4mb, full line speed
Axxess running at 4mb, full line speed

Not going to log another ticket just to be given another login - their system obviously doesn't work properly, despite numerous tickets in the past few months.

Benefit of the doubt has been given, I've been very tolerant as the paying consumer up to now, therefore now voting with my wallet - cancellation notice sent.

Off to another ISP...

I not so sure that it's Stockholm Syndrome. For me anyway, its more the hassle of the notice period and changing to another ISP. I have also been prepared to give OW the benefit of the doubt, But now enough is enough.

Notice of cancellation sent.

Yep, the notice period on credit cards is different to debit orders, going to relook at their T&Cs again, thought I saw something around calendar month for cards and only 10 days for debit orders; not brilliant but at least I know my account is going to be cancelled.

It would just be a "good faith" gesture imo if they could release card subscribers earlier, particularly given the fact that I'm cancelling due their poor package performance, not just because I want to move for the hell of it.

I'm on a debit order and I have been told that I have to give 1 calendar month's notice.

I have tried to confirm that on their T&C's but the browser is once again so slow that it just hangs on the link and takes forever to open.

I've just e-mailed my cancellation notice on my Titan ADSL package.

I'm going to use my free FNB uncapped 4Mbps account and get myself the 2Mbps uncapped for R99 from www.connection.co.za

This is in the T&C's

"8. TERMINATION OF SERVICE BY THE USER
The User may terminate the Service by giving written notice to OpenISP CC at
[email protected] or 086 691 2166 as follows:

8.1 one (1) calendar months’ notice for all Users making use of debit/credit order payment facilities,
given before the 25th day of the month before the last month for the provision of the Service (e.g. if
the User wishes the Service to terminate at the end of April, notice of termination must be given
before 25 March). Users may not downgrade their ADSL account/s during the one (1) calendar
months’ notice period. Where proper notice is given in time, OpenISP CC will issue, by email, a
cancellation reference number. Only once a cancellation reference number has been issued will the
User’s account be deemed to be cancelled.

8.2 Subject to 8.3 and 8.4 below, 10 (ten) days’ notice for all Users using other methods of payment,
given before the 27th day of the month before the last month for the provision of the Service (i.e
given on or before the 17th day of the last month of service) .

8.3 Nothing set out in clauses 7 or 8 shall detract from the legal right of OpenISP CC to recover any
amount due owing and payable in terms of this agreement from the user together with interest
thereon at the prime rate of interest levied by ABSA Bank SA and all costs incurred in the collection
of monies owed. "

Here is the full clause:

I don't know where point 8.4 is, it only goes up to 8.3.

Just got into the PDF:

8.1 one (1) calendar months’ notice for all Users making use of debit/credit order payment facilities, given before the 25th day of the month before the last month for the provision of the Service (e.g. if the User wishes the Service to terminate at the end of April, notice of termination must be given before 25 March). 8.3 is not relevant and there is no 8.4...

Seems debit order and credit order (wtf is a credit order?) is one calendar month.
Other payment methods are 10 days - so what are other payment methods? Are credit cards deemed "other"?

For some reason recently I cannot connect to Steam, cant even open netflix and my torrents won't connect to peers and if they do it sits at 0.1kbps mostly just 0.0...this all happens before 5pm-ish. Everything works in the evening. This is on a 2mb Gold uncapped, anyone else experiencing?

Support is no help, saying my account is being shaped. So if I'm being shaped does that mean I won't be able to connect to Steam or open Netflix?

Now I don't feel so bad that I didn't submit my cancellation on the 28th of April when my problems began. I guess I should be happy that at least this account isn't completely useless, so it's not like I'm paying and getting nothing for it. In fact right now the account is actually working reasonably well, probably because it's a public holiday.

Anyway, I'll be sure to remember to submit my cancellation well before the 25th. I have to admit though, for the past ~2 years I've been getting excellent service from Openweb, such a shame that it's come to this.

It's not like they're gonna miss me at all, since I was one of their lower paying subscribers.

EDIT: Scratch that, account performance not so hot anymore.

Does Openweb throttle Youtube, becuase I'm having difficulty loading youtube videos, even on 144p.....wtf....I have a 4Mb uncapped account. Strange thing is though if I do a speed test I get like a 11ms ping and 3Mb download....so something is not right??

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Does it happen with all videos or just some? Could be fast for local cached videos but slow for ones that aren't (i.e. international bandwidth).
