OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Does anyone know where MrBEEP went? I see he has not been active for about 2 months :(

Dunno but why do you give a fsuk about this pathological liar? I reckon this liar's been avoiding us because he knows that we know that the way OW accounts are managed is very dodgy. I suggest you to move on because this side is no longer a paradise of big downloaders. I bet your password is 1122 :D

lawrence,i am on it the 4mbps and i get full speed all the time never had a prob been using it for a week now :)

i love it!

Back when I had an OpenWeb account it used to be :D
I'm looking into these new uncapped and unshaped packages of theirs. I need ADSL data ASAP for when my new line is installed :(

Check out Connection.co.za. One of my mates got me a Connection uncapped 4mb account a few days ago. It's pretty good in terms of stability and speed. Just make sure you schedule your downloads between 10pm to 6am 7 days.

I couldn't change my old OW account password because Mr. Beep never gave me a separate set of login details required for accessing the account control panel.

Hmmm thanks for that. Will look into this and see how many positive feedbacks people post about the account. No other ISP can even closely match the price. But MrBEEP used to be my 24 hour tech support whenever I had an issue and it would be fixed ASAP :D But now he's nowhere to be found so I'm worried about going with them again :/

wahahahha how did you know?????

Mr. Beep ran away 2 months ago after some smart guys asked him for an explanation why most of the newly registered OW clients have the same 4-digit numeric password (1122).

I googled openweb 1122 and got this

Hi Support,

Account is not authenticating again. Last time it was reset or something to that extent.

[email protected]
OW # : My account number, not sure if I can post it here so removed for good measure.

Hi Rudi

Seems like Telkom is at it again.

I am performing a full port reset. Please try again in 60 minutes and provide feedback

Have a wonderful day!

Hi,

60 minutes have come and gone but I'm afraid there's no joy yet.

I should add the the line is working 100% as I can load another account and it authenticates immediately.
Herewith the log from the router, seems to be authentication issues, almost like there is no radius server present. I double checked the password but my password is so very easy that forgetting it is near to impossible. Perhaps we can change it and try again?
The account dropped after a firewall reboot on Friday and hasn't come up since.

Hi Rudi

Please type the below details into your router, do not copy and paste

UserName: no
Password: also no

I have tested the account and it works well

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Charmaine,

I do everything via CLI so there's no copy pasting but for safe measure..

Worked within seconds. Getting a different error now though. It seems I very briefly got an IP from you but then I got the gateway error below.

Not working :(
(Screenshot provided)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Rudi

I have spent the afternoon testing the new account I gave you.

I have connected it to no less than 10 x ADSL lines across South Africa, and can conclude the fault is not on the account side.

This is more than likely a router or Telkom fault. Please try using a different router and try again

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My previous test will prove that it is not a Telkom or router issue. As you can see from those results, there is already another account connected and that is working fine. The router is at home and I'm at work, I've been logging into it remotely all day long so that should be proof enough that my side is clean. Both my EOH and Afrihost prepaid accounts work so I'm pretty sure the problem is still on your side.

The problem might be on the exchange though. I'm sure I don't have to explain this but you give Telkom a big block of IP's and they break it up into smaller blocks and assign to the various exchanges across the country. Perhaps my exchange has no more IP's available? The exchange is located in Cradock Avenue, Lyttelton, Centurion so perhaps you can get Telkom to check.

The last error I got was ..

2013-07-16 19:04:42 system notif 00537 PPPoE session termination or failure
during: LCP, CHAP/PAP, IPCP link setup

Please show that to your engineers.

This is not the first time (as you well know) that I have had authentication issues after a reboot of equipment. I have booked out a brand new modem from our stock and will replace my current modem when I get home tonight. If the problem persists I will give you/Openweb till COB tomorrow before canceling my account with Openweb.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Rudi

Telkom assigns IP's to ESR's across the country, not to individual exchanges.

Our engineers have confirmed that this is not an IP related fault.

Kindly submit your cancellation notice to [email protected] if you wish to cancel

Downloading torrents is never a good idea with any ISP. Back when I was with OpenWeb I had a 10MB/s Gamers King Downloaders Bling account and I pulled between 1TB - 1.34TB per month from my FTP server. They never shaped me at all and now I see people are getting hammered on OpenWeb accounts in terms of download speed

It's really sad that even after my extensive troubleshooting has proven that the problem is clearly on your side, you send me a reply like the one below. This is now 2 accounts from 2 different ISP's that work perfectly first time round yet yours doesn't and you still believe the problem is with my equipment and/or line.

I was enjoying the service from Openweb, but I will gladly send my cancellation through if this is how you are going to treat your clients.

You may close the call.
