OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

No denying P2P has legitimate uses, but in reality how many people use it for Linux distros and how many people use it to download movies/music/series/games?

What people use it for doesn't really matter. We shouldn't be barred from certain protocols at all.

Uhm.. Have you even looked at other ISP's prices?

Axxess 4MB Unshaped Uncapped - R596pm
Afrihost 4MB Unshaped Uncapped - R697pm
WebAfrica 4MB Unshaped Uncapped - R699pm

The Axxess and Afrihost accounts are exactly the same. They are completely unshaped 24/7 and, unlike openweb, they actually offer support. Read the last 40 pages of this thread and you'll understand what I mean.

Do yourself a favour and RUN far away from openweb!
Or better. I now have a 100% free uncapped account from a BANK!!

Took 4 minutes to load this page and gmail lags like crazy as well; Youtube buffers at 144p; online gaming is no joy either. Tested 3 different ISP's, including MWeb uncapped, and they run perfectly.

If OpenWeb can't provide a service during "open time", which let's face it, most of us rave about, then I'm finally parting ways.

I'll also be clear that I haven't contacted the support desk, because I don't want to be routed to MTN and I don't want another account. That's not solving the problem.

Not too shabby here.

Pity I only have this account until the end of the month :(

11PM on a Friday and torrents crawl at less than 10%..

Even capped accounts are buggered tonight. In fact since yesterday. Can't get full line speed on anything at the moment. Got 1 gig left on a Windows Server download - ETA is 4 hours...on a 10Mb capped account...

250k download speed (Battle.net updates) on Silver OW 4 meg uncapped at 8.30 at night.

I would honestly prefer OW clamped down on P2P (sorry to all you guys who try to download the internet, but I use mine for mostly legit services) and opened up the taps on other protocols...

You realise that your Blizzard is using P2P to update right? So yes, OW has clamped down on it with your crappy performance. LOL.

I am seriously considering cancelling my account with Openweb after having been a customer for more than 3 and a half years.

I just want everyone to know that I haven't followed this thread since 8am this morning, and now that I'm trying to catch up, I have realised that I have 7 pages to get through, and came to a realisation, that I don't really give a damn, and too much damn work to keep up!

I know what I know!

I've said what I know!

I've tried to tell people what I know!

I've tried to help people to know!

Now I know that it's really pointless at the end of the day! :(

EDIT: I didn't read the 7 pages and don't give a continental!

You wont be with the right type account - more expensive / unshaped. Be prepared to pay more than the average user to get more than average service.

Youtube is now flying 720p with a download in the background no buffering, the magic switch happened about 12, before that 360 was buffer, buffer and more buffer.

I apologize if this seems too obvious, but have you actually emailed support yet?

7am on a Saturday morning and torrents crawl at 0.2kb/s.

There is clearly something very wrong with Openweb and it would be nice if they could actually come tell us what is going on.

For your edification

This really makes me wonder. About three years back I was on a VB account and suddenly everyone who had those accounts randomly started having authentication issues which then meant they were assigned new accounts on a different network. At the time Openweb's excuse was that they had problems with the VB provider and couldn't come to an agreement, but I always thought Openweb had just decided to drop VB and phased out the accounts by rendering people's accounts unable to authenticate at random.

I wonder if this is not maybe the case with my account right now? It has been working flawlessly since July 2012 with the worst shaping being roughly 60% during business hours. Now suddenly I'm shaped into the ground because they want me to contact them so that they can move me to another account which will undoubtedly not perform half as good. And it's definitely shaping, because it started at 12pm sharp and I can guarantee you that it will be lifted tonight at either 5pm, 7pm or 11pm. I had the exact same issues after I lost my VB account in 2012. Also, my upload speeds and latencies are perfect, which is usually an indication that your downloads are being shaped.

Why now suddenly am I experiencing these issues? Maybe they've decided I use too much for what I pay and they want to move me to an account that is shaped more heavily? Maybe they're angry because I've been posting negative things the past two weeks and now they're trying to spite me with me having no way to prove it? It wouldn't be the first time, seeing as people in the past have often said their speeds suddenly degraded severely after they lodged complaints about the service. Or maybe I've been using the account myself all this time and today of all days they've decided to give my details to another customer?

Nobody can be sure, because that's the thing with Openweb. Because they do everything on the sly and because they are the least transparent ISP out there, nobody can with certainty say anything and OpenWeb can just laugh it off as conspiracy theories on the forums.

The only thing I can tell you is that if I were to submit a support ticket right now, they would refuse to investigate or fix my account. No, they would simply assign me another one.

Where is cableguy anyway?

Hi Zewp

I'm here!

Please drop me a PM so that I can have a look

Am I going to be assigned another account or will mine be fixed?

I would need to perform some tests on your account to see what kind of results I get

See cableguy, that's the problem. I don't want to be assigned another account. My account has performed perfectly the past two years and I don't want to lose it.

I know you think I'm being difficult, but the only reason I'm reacting this way is because of past experiences with Openweb. In 2012 I lost an account that ran as well as this one does and after that I had several months of internet hell where Openweb kept moving me from account to account until eventually I was placed on this account that performs okay. I do not want to go through that process again, so do you understand why I'm apprehensive about being assigned a new account?

I don't understand why accounts sometimes can't be fixed. If I email Mweb or Afrihost right now and tell them I have problems with my account, they fix those problems. They will never assign me new account details.

Hi Zewp

I will ensure your account is not moved.

I will get the senior guys to take a look at it for you

To be frank, I don't trust support. Besides, this is very clearly shaping. Steam, nntp, http downloads and streaming are all running full speed. It's just p2p that is dead.

I wish when people report problems that they actually provide something for us to look at (MyBB speedtest and tracert?), like a screenshot of the crap they're experiencing / vs another ISP where things are normal?
