OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

You realise your explanation goes entirely against what MrBeep always told many of us, right? That second connection is not you. It's someone else. MrBeep said that himself, but he said the person isn't sharing your account, just your pipe.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a pipe?

I don't know either. That's just what MrBeep told me when I asked him about it.
Found this page where iJasper commented that stats at ISDSL aren't accurate due to it being for the pipe and not your specific account:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/469168-OpenWeb-ADSL-Feedback-Thread/page199

Also, Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipeline_(computing)

I am trying to find out more about this, but if the pipe explanation is correct, doesn't that dent the multiple accounts theory a bit? Not that is has happened, but that it is a specific tactic by OW?

I am not going to respond to you any further, suffice to say:
However, it doesn't mean they have been purposefully duping their customers.
I have played devil's advocate many times here, no more.
The garage around the corner is proof enough that my account is shared, as is the reports of my location being, Durban, and some places I never have ever seen IN SA, never mind Gauteng.
Do you know, that with the new ISP, yes the SAME ADSL LINE, my location is consistent, and of course, none of this farking throttling crap.

Furthermore, you know F-ALL about ADSL, the business end of it, and the like. Your reference to "pipe computing" was highly amusing.

Mate, I don't trust a word that comes from these people's mouths. These are people who told me my account was underperforming because my router was still attuned to another ISP.

I am trying to really figure this out, instead of jumping to conclusions. If I know F-ALL about ADSL, then tell me where I am going wrong instead of just saying I am. I want to really understand what is going on.

I am not disputing that your account was shared, nor that that other guy's was. But that is two confirmed cases (that I know of). The usage stats showing multiple connections is still being figured out. If you know more about it, please enlighten me!

High ping to international servers on my OW account yet again (yes, the flatmate has reverted to the other account at the flat). I was wondering why none of my MMOs were connecting again today. Switch over to a Telkom capped account and no issues at all.

:/

High and fluctuating pings are being reported by multiple people on different ISPs and backbones in my BF4 clan. Not sure why that is. Are you certain that nothing is downloading at the moment? Maybe an AV update or something?

Looks like ur router is attuned to Telkom...

Ijasper was a BIG OW fanboy

And ironically his posting style matched cableguy and MrBeep's posting style. Always had the quote at the bottom of the message.

There's a reason he was often called a shill, just like there's a reason Cableguy was often called a shill. ;)

Edit: Oh wait, nevermind. I'm thinking of iJack, not iJasper. Although iJasper was a massive fanboy too, but I never got the vibe that he was an OW employee.

Nothing at all. My laptop and tablet are also both turned off. Might just a be a temporary problem then. I'll use the Telkom account and try Openweb again later.

No, iJasper was that lighty that got banned for being under-age - can't remember his first nick, think it was silvercat or something.

It does, does it? My current external IP says Bloemfontein. I am in Welkom. At other times I have seen it connected elsewhere. Others have reported the same about their external IPs.

In the usage page do you not get the external IP, and the region. You got the name of one of the exchanges - like in Durban you would be shown Taj Mahal 3. You would then see a another connection from a Pretoria exchange on your account.

This is not a simple IP lookup that is shown there, this is the actual exchange name. If you are sitting in Durban and using your account only there, there is absolutely no possible way you would see Pretoria or Cape town or any other place in that specific section of the IS Usage screen unless your account is used from another part of the country. It just isn't possible.

Anybody using a 2mb line that is suffering from shaping after 5pm can use a 2mb uncapped Connection account that I gave to someone, but he's now settled elsewhere, so he said I can give it away. It cancels at the end of the month.

PM me, first come first served :)
