what is the name of the IS rep?
And in your mind it's not possible that @openweb.co.za is a sub-domain of the capacity bought from IS? Do you even understand how capacity works? Why would an ISP both buy capacity and accounts? Do you understand that it's possible for Openweb to share accounts out of the capacity they bought?
Let's say OpenWeb buys 50mbs capacity (example figure) from IS. They then divide it into 50 1mb/s accounts. They then share them between 100 users, meaning there is 2 users to an account. The actual process is a bit more complex seeing as contention ratios and the like come into play, but that should cover the basics of how it works.
You're grasping at straws to prove something when all evidence thus far points to the contrary. Yes, OpenWeb shares accounts. I've got the proof of this for myself in my SAIX portal. However, there is no compelling evidence that OpenWeb is reselling accounts as well as buying capacity and so far there is no compelling motivation for them to do so in the first place.
interestingly: http://mynetwork.co.za/
is registered on behalf of an Afrihost client ...
I assume one of two things has happened either:
the @mynetwork.co.za realm was created by IS independently of somebody acquiring the domain
or
the realm was created when Afrihost used the IS backbone and a website hasn't been developed
either way it is a good illustration of the interconnectedness of services and providers
I believe it is against the mybb rules to quote and/or go into detail about private messages, but it was along the same lines as the email quoted by cavedog.what exactly did the plugg rep say?
It is possible, but not probable. When I was on a shared account on the @openweb.co.za realm, after complaining I was switched to the @mynetwork.co.za realm. Both were IS based ADSL accounts, that is as far as they were the same. And in your mind it's not possible that @openweb.co.za is a sub-domain of the capacity bought from IS? Do you even understand how capacity works? Why would an ISP both buy capacity and accounts?
Again, it is possible, but not probable.Do you understand that it's possible for Openweb to share accounts out of the capacity they bought?
The evidence doesn't lead to the same conclusion for me as it does for you. I don't think @openweb.co.za is a sub-realm of @mynetwork.co.za. Unless the IS representative come back and say it is, I don't see why you should believe that either. And therefor, we still do not have any proof, or even an official representative saying, that @openweb.co.za is or is not, resold IS uncapped accounts, or is/not resold IS capcity. You're grasping at straws to prove something when all evidence thus far points to the contrary.
I know but it is is amusingdsl realms could be anything when it comes to authentication, not necessarily be a fqdn (thanks saix).

however if you have clashing realms it could get interesting - hence the need for there to be a recognition of the interconnectedness of things. Off hand I am not sure whether such a conflict would be for SAIX to resolve or whether we could have a problem (with ISPA not having a full compliment of members - Telkom (wholesale, internet, mobile ....))
And right there that's where the fraud came in where the same account was shared amongst more than 1 person. what happened here was that the 1 meg became 512k when both users were active and downloading as that single account was capped at 1 meg
Over subscription is one thing where you provide a dedicated account to each user and shape the single account to 1 meg so if only 50 people log in, then each gets their 1 meg, or maybe 60, so it scales down. pretty much standard and thats cool.
If they had taken a 2 meg account and shared amongst 2 people as 1 meg who PAID to get 1 meg then cool to
Remember you paid for 1 meg, and yes one can throw in the ADSL isnt a guarenteed service and their is contention ratio's of 1 to 10 however many of the users only got 5% of the service they paid for which is not right nor is it realistic.
the law is very clear, everything should reside in what is expected in what one would call a "reasonable" or "expected" service.
is it fraud because maybe they screwed their shaping policies up, hell yes, ignorance is not an excuse and believe when i tell you i tried everything to assist, we had telkom / saix tier 2 techs showing them it wasnt my line but still the same rhetoric "It's your ADSL line" - "Your account is working fine here".
come on, lets be realistic, there was a certain degree of dishonesty. I am still waiting for my answers from IS as i phrased them in a fashion of yes / no which means no lies can come of it.
We have some excess capacity available on our network until end July 2014. Get a 30GB Capped account for only R89 Email [email protected] to order. Accounts valid as a once off purchase until end July 2014

Have they really stooped to such a low? Thankfully I leave this horrid company end of July.

Yeah I saw it on facebook too. What a joke. Its not even a real deal compared to axxess's capped accounts....
Anyways my R299 hybrid 50GB account is still downloading at a 100KB/s on a very early Sunday morning.....
I also got thinking about public holidays and the poor performance. If they were not just reselling IS based account had the options to shape accounts why are they shaping them so badly on a public holiday? Surely the traffic will be less on a public holiday?
IS shapes their uncapped account on a time frame. Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm no matter if its a public holiday or not.

The person that administers their FB page exhibits the cognitive ability of a teapot. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
I've also had a run-in with this person in the past and got blocked (for actually defending OW - forgive me world - but aforesaid teapot didn't manage to pick up on that).
Transparency is clearly not a priority of theirs.
