OpenWeb False advertising

Hi
I would just like to warn you guys about OpenWeb’s false advertising practices. I signed up for a gamers king 2mb uncapped account after reading good reviews on this site and viewing an advertisement by OpenWeb online http://openweb.co.za/gamers-king.html# The advertisement promised prioritisation for gaming and downloads. Nothing else in the advert indicated otherwise. So I think to myself hey, I have some lag on my current TELKOM internet account so let me go ahead and take this one. Signup process was easy and painless, I was provided with my login details within a few hours. So I setup my router with my new account, tried to play some games online and guess what, I’m lagged more now than I did with Telkom. Where is the prioritisation you promised OpenWeb? Luckily I did not cancel my TELKOM account so I decided to switch back just to see if maybe the line is congested, and the TELKOM account lagged less than the OpenWeb account. I repeated this about 5 times hoping that I will see some improvement on the OpenWeb account and found none. The next day I decide I had enough and call to cancel the OpenWeb account. I was told that there cancellation department does not have a phone and I will have to log a call online. WHAT ISP DOES NOT HAVE A PHONE NUMBER FOR THEIR CANCELLATION DEPARTMENT? I then log the call and was told I now have to pay for this month and next in FULL! Don’t trust OpenWeb or any of their promises. I have lodged a complaint with the ASA and NCA. I hope this post will make people more aware of OpenWeb's false promises and save them the trouble of having to deal with a substandard ISP.

Why not send a PM to MrBeep, the Openweb rep and see if he can fix it for you? I have been an Openweb customer for 2 years and have recommended over 20 customers to them. Not one has had a meaningful complaint

i am on 2mbps gamers and it awesome

u can just asked for a new account, they will give u a new one, sometimes that fix alot of slowness

and are you sure its not with telkom?,they supply the lines
and they also lag.

and what game/serve did u try
and what about ping test?

or u can login wiht guest@telkomadsl
and do a ping test then

if the ping is also high its a problem with telkom

i am verry happy with openweb, but i can agree a phone where u can call them will be nice

There are obviously phones, but the switchboard won't put you through. I thought this wasn't a bad idea and will stop the time-wasters whose plug has inadvertantly fallen out but they have not detected it yet. You can get a lot more done without constant interruptions from the phone

Besides, MrBeep gives you an answer within a few hours, any day of the week

I had one of those uncapped trial accounts from openweb, and I was really impressed by their network!!! My latency was less in online games than with my current mweb account!!! That's what drove me to cancel with MWEB and to join Openweb!!! Plus my downloads was blazing compared to Mweb!!!...So I fail to see what your argument is!!! Do a port reset or like what was mentioned get a new account! One day on a network is not going to give you the experience needed to judge them!!!

Speed was fine for me with them.

I do however think the one month calender notice thing with them is BS .

I am glad you guys are happy with openweb, however, i am not the first to complain about openweb's bad advertising practices. If you advertise something and its subject to terms and conditions, should should state that on the ad. That was why i posted this. Please follow the link and look at the ad for yourself and tell me that im wrong. Yes I did get my port reset etc and compared with my existing Telkom account 5 times. Telkom was always faster. I did the ping tests speed tests and everything. I understand fully what causes these issues but the point is that i did not get what was advertised to me. Furthermore I did not get a copy of the adsl month to month contract and was not provided with one when i asked for it. Everyone can say their ISP is better but that was not the issue here.

Have you only tested for a day? I have had poor performance once in a blue moon on Openweb and gaming but not often. There accounts are fantastic.

Only issue I have is with Netflix and Hulu otherwise I would have kept the gamers king account.

Wow, so it's all good to register at MyBB as long as you don't knock Openweb ....... go fanbois.

Especially the ones who made song and dance threads when they had ISP trouble ;)

Would you really spend days of frustration talking to the isp about getting something that they should have done right in the first place? I was promised prioritised gaming and did not get it. When i played cod or dota on line Telkom was better and i lagged more on openweb. Im glad you guys are happy with openweb. There are many reasons that cause my issues and i know this. If openweb was at least slightly better than my telkom account I would not have cared much. Openweb should be more careful how they advertise. I did not get what was advertised and now i have to use telkom because its at lease manageable online. I don't care which isp is better and don't prefer telkom either. If you advertise something then deliver it.

I've also got a gamerskings 2mbps account. I had a few hiccups the first few days I had my account. I've been with openweb for about 3 months. Give them a chance. Pm Mr beep. He's always been approachable and willing to help. I doubt you'll get better service.

No, like I said, my account was fine on gaming, but on streaming a disaster, gave them a chance to fix it and they did not so cancelled.

But give mrBeep a chance and if he does not get it fixed then cancel and demand they waiver the calender months notice.

Did you contact support or did you just decide to cancel and then only contacted openweb?

I noticed that you are also in cape town. Maybe there is an issue for users this side? I stand to be corrected

Might just be, but like I said pm @mrBeep and let them at least try fix it, I am sure if they cannot fix it then they will gladly cancel.

And yes MWeb is a good alternative :whistling:

I had a mweb account before i moved to ct and didn't have any issues. I was going to go with them again if it were not the ad i saw. I expected it to be faster than Telkom with less lag and it was not. I'm not going to try and get this fixed now as i have already put in a cancellation and have to pay for this month and for December even thou i didn't get what was advertised. If this was not a service and physical product that didn't do what was advertised you would return it if it didn't work properly.
