Never thought of that to be honest. Besides, with the constant support tickets opened - surely OW should have done that?
Anyway, with AH now, so on the MTN backbone and a happy camper.

OpenWeb support in my dealings with them recently were quick and patient... however, changing backbones from IS to MTN seems to solve the office-hours-of-death issue for me but then created another of very slow downloads even during unshaped weekend / after hours time and the only solution offered was to switch back to IS... so it is either dead office hours internet and good speeds after hours or usable office hours internet and downloads limited to 55KBs. This last option just struck a disharmonious chord with me... kinda like "a take it or leave it" option. Just where the fault lies who knows really, none of my other backup accounts have these issues or symptoms.

I could not spend anymore time emailing a ticket, waiting for reply, replying, waiting for response, resetting router, resetting modem, phoning Telkom, testing lines, replacing POTS filters etc... for a single OpenWeb wonky account. I signed up with Afrihost on Saturday, their unshaped business... and zero issues all weekend. I am curious to see if it behaves during office-hours this week.

It will be perfect. Went through the same as you - exactly - and after signing up with AH was very skeptic due to experience with OW. Needless to say, zero issues for months now. Internet is just there and just works. Regardless of time of day! 24/7 consistent internet.
 
So do Afrihost offer trial accounts of some sort? Think I must switch to AH business uncapped 4mb as well...

No, but you can get a free 1GB capped account which uses the same bandwidth/profile as Business Uncapped.

Morning

Just a quick update.

I can video skype again during office hours.
Teamviewer runs on quality setting without an issue... I can also voice skype at the same time.
No problems with international browsing or email
I am also streaming TuneIn while doing the above, no buffering.

So far this Afrihost business it is perfect... will see if it continues like this.

After 11 is the big test in the comparison :)
But - I will hold off until later today before I say "told you so" - lol. Just kidding.

Indeed, after 11 OpenWeb Gold became unusable and die, from 9-11 it would be sluggish... and so far, this new account has passed the 1st test.

I will continue with the updates in the Afrihost Business thread methinks ... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/514288-Afrihost-Business-Uncapped-Feedback

Please update here too dude. This thread is related to this specific after 11 issue.
When I was with OW I moaned about this a lot and was basically made out to be mad because in the OW thread there are a lot of happy campers. This thread has consolidated this particular issue into one thread and a few peeps have responded to it with the same problem. IE: I am NOT mad. There IS more than one of us with the problem.

Okay then...

Another update here... logged into my Gold account, browsing possible, but very sluggish. Email worked in Outlook, could not get browser Gmail to load. Teamviewer could not make a connection and I did not even bother with skype.

Switched back to Afrihost, and all is working without any issues... and it is now 11:20.

@PostManpot - I cannot get any twitch.tv streams to load on either accounts tho'... Will try later with cable rather than over wifi.

Having the same issue with Twitch.tv. Just sits on Loading Video and goes no further. This perhaps should go to the official thread.

Perhaps indeed.

BUT... here it is after 12... and apart from the twitch.tv not loading, EVERYTHING I need to work is working and all without an issue.... AND downloads and Windows updates are all running above 100KBs.

This is just sooooo good... please let it stay like this. I can feel the stress just evaporating.

HaaHaa

Well, day 2 on this Afrihost account is almost ended, and another flawless day. Zero issues with dropbox, TeamViewer, email, browsing, Skype... everything actually, even downloads at 120Kbs that do not strangle browsing!

Heck, Youtube 720p during office hours is a novelty to me... and it is something not even attempted in the past, so used to 240ing it just to get it to play.

If this is the norm for this account, I could become evangelical!

EDIT:

twitch.tv issues seem resolved as well, no probs there either today.
