Openweb launches hybrid capped-uncapped ADSL service

Ummm nope...

Won't touch Openweb with a bargepole ever again.

These products only make sense if usage is relatively low and maximum line speed is needed.

For example, R399/R699 would allow for a 2Mbps/4Mbps respectively unshaped uncapped Business ADSL account. No daytime cap.

“Clients are demanding premium capped bandwidth during office hours and uncapped data after hours. We have finally made this request a reality,” said Openweb CEO Keoma Wright.

No... Clients are merely 'demanding' that basic services like Google services, Facebook and general browsing work during office hours.

(And that their accounts are not shared.)

Here's the latest gem:

So, have also put in my cancellation notice after some fighting.

In their last email, they sent a screenshot of my usage apparently showing that the account was not being shared. However, I've been using a new WebAfrica account since about the 25th of last month. Their screenshot showed usage for July of 38 gigs so far :wtf: ROFL. Our point exactly Openweb...

After the worst 2 months of my life with OW I am not even remotely considering going back.

IMO the hybrid account is the future of ADSL in South Africa. Hope MTN (Afrihost/Axxess) and IS will follow...

No, we need proper accounts in SA. It sucks that consumers are just rolling over for this crap offering.

What constitutes "after hours" ?

After many years with OpenWeb, my account will be closed at the end of this month.

Is daytime browsing during office hours considered premium?

This is a compelling package. Openweb's after hours speeds have always been very good while their daytimes speeds were useless. This should take care of the problem. After all the bad publicity Openweb received, I decided to cancel and obtain an uncapped account with Afrihost BUT I know that Afrihost shapes after hours which is a big NO for me. So I will stay with Openweb but I will make use of this hybrid account.

You're obviously not on Afrihost Business Uncapped then.

What about a high cap capped account? What's your usage like?

You mean their after hour speeds starting at 11pm right?

Anyone with sense should stay away from Openweb
