Im thinking of buying this due 2 the explaination provided. Please tell me if its good or not?

1GB FIBER (1GB local ofter cap)

Description:

OpenWebs new Fibre Based ADSL packages will run on the new Internet Solutions Fibre International ADSL network. These accounts will offer low latencies and increased speeds as all international traffic will run over the SAT 3 Undersea cable. The accounts will be shaped during office hours and unshaped after hours, allowing gamers and P2P users to get the most out of their accounts! The real advantage of these accounts will be the soft capping policy! The accounts are offered with a [like for like] softcap, meaning that the 1GB account will allow 1GB of local bandwidth after cap, the 2GB account will allow 2GBs of local bandwidth after cap, and so forth. After you have reached your soft cap, you will not be billed for any excess usage, which allows users to control their monthly ADSL spending.

Price: R 65.00

This is given on the openweb website when ordering. Or is it much better to go for a 1GB SAIX account. This will be for playing games mostly.

It's OK. Internet Solutions international is a bit slow though. I would just go with Telkom, as for a bit more you get 10 gigs local instead of 1gig, and it's on SAIX.

Ohh sorry seen the other topic but Telkom all access 1GB V.S Openweb's 1GB FIBER. Which 1 to choose?

I hear you but telkom is shapped right through monday - sunday. right?

I see, it's the unshaped you want. Well I personally have had no problems with downloading etc, on Telkom shaped, but then again I have never used unshaped. I also have no problem with online gaming on 384kbps?

Yes. I dont want unshapped I just saw they say after hours time its unshapped which is not bad due to the price. Look @ the price for 1GB unshapped and the price for the fiber. Not bad. Shapped accounts give nice high latency if the traffic is high on the weekend. With local bandwidth that is really cheap there is allways traffic according 2 telkom!

mrBig is bit busy and still is to answer your questions as explained here
Hey Guys
Sorry for the delay. Been hectic with month end proceedings.

only real cons i see
  • shaped/unshaped when IS thinks its working/after hours (including weekend and holidays - they do have tendency to fix the rules as times go by)
  • no roll over, cap and money wasted those months not fully used
  • one choice backbone - if its stuffed, no alternative to switch.

Apart from those if only used "after" hours it has its merits and price is good.

...

both unshaped and this "fiber" runs through the same sat3, thus yielding similar speeds when both are compared in unshaped terms

-one side question i have though, why use the word fiber in the product - is it somewhere along the line connected via fiber lines (shouldn't all the connected points be via fiber as in fiber 2 home) or is it just renaming ?

Maybe I should take it once off. Thats nice you can choose to have any 1 of their packages once off or monthly. Thats cool like prepaid allmost

That's a good point you raise there...
Should fiber actually be mentioned?
When one considers fiber in the international scene - the connectivity includes the "Local Loop" right?

At the end of the day - it seems that SAT3 is being put through its paces as Telscums monopoly on it draws to a close.
