We do not log usage stats on uncapped, thus it is advised to install your own monitoring facility on your network (PC) to monitor usage.

We certainly do not want to shape you based on usage, and the best way to assure that is to not even track usage

so what happened?
False alarm.

MrBeep communicated via PM.

It lists other users too. So you can't rely on it for data usage (unless you look at *your* current live session). And you can't rely on it for identifying unauthorized use.

No usage tracking for uncapped a/c

The truth of the matter is that for some accounts, Openweb shares the same uncapped account between 2 users, and that automatic throttling (done by Internet Solutions) may kick in if one of the users "abuses" the connection. This is what happened to me after my line was repaired, after being out for about a month.

I am still using the same type of account, however I am now renting directly from Internet Solutions retail dept. (Plugg). I am sharing the account with my son, and thus have some control if I would find myself unexpectedly throttled, which never happened thus far (touch wood).

This is also the reason why Openweb usually supplies a new user-name and password, in order to magically reset a throttled account, whenever there is a speed complaint. They are probably attempting to combine a heavy and light user in the same account, so that the total usage is permitted (without excessive throttling by IS).

There would be not point in 'sharing' accounts if we in fact have our own IPC with IS. We manage our own shaping of our accounts.

To share an account would be quite silly as we would be sharing our own IPC with ourselves.

Please do not use this resource as we do not log usage stats for uncapped at this stage.

Kindly refer to the main OpenWeb feedback thread where we are infact currently busy discussing this.

As an Openweb user, it is confirmed that the wool was pulled over your eyes if:

1) You are unable to change your adsl password. If they allowed this, your account "partner" would suddenly find himself without a connection, and cause havoc.
Do not believe stories that they are working on the User Control Panel, and this will be corrected soon. In fact, the Control Panel was intentionally made this way, for the "other than premium Gold" accounts.

2) Logging into http://users.isdsl.net with your user-name and password also shows another IP address, with associated usage statistics, confirming another user with the same password, but different location, on the account.

3) You are brainwashed and got used to the continuous throttling, and started cutting back on your usage. You feel guilty that you abused your account by checking your email twice, instead of only once a session. You bend over, and reach for the Vaseline jar, if someone only mentions the words "account abuse".
This is the ideal situation over the long haul for Openweb, since they effectively double their revenue, with the same costs, by successfully cramming double the number of users into the same accounts.
