Openweb SAIX DSL vs. OpenWeb IS Fibre ADSL

Good day

I have recently upgraded my ISDN telephone line to an ADSL line, to take advantage of the larger throughput. I mostly use the line for international gaming so latency is a huge factor.

What I would like to know is if anyone has got the OpenWeb IS Fibre ADSL package? And what there latency is like? Since Openweb states that your latency is reduced after hours I would like to know how much and if it would be worth while switching from my current ADSL account which runs over the SAIX backbone (But is still shapped).
I will post some stats of my current accounts speeds a bit later.

I use an IS fiber account for playing WoW.

With my old, shaped, SAIX account I got around 600ms to the EU servers.

With my IS fiber semi-shaped, I get ~250ms off-peak and around 400-500ms peak time.

I am not sure if the SAIX unshaped would give you better. But for the price and the latency the IS fiber accounts are pretty damn good.

...there are however few factors which will either have you get faster or slower speeds for either is fiber, saix or verizon unshaped. i will suggest that you trail them out to see which one is the best for your current location as you position in the grid, actual grid, actual dslam and the to and from cables into the dslam will influence your overall performance.

There are other things which you can get a swell as for example a gaming router which prioritizes each packet for better online performance, i used a dlink gamerlounge router which definitely makes a difference when i have gamefeul turned on. Wow for example has the tcp/ip fix which also in some cases improves the latency by up to 200ms...

there are currently 3 unshaped options
  • after hours and weekends (is fiber - most isps)
  • all hours one realm (verison or saix - most isps)
  • all hours multi realm (verizon and saix, the network is chosen by the user on connecting - webafrica and vanillaisp?)

What I'll do is get a second 1G pre-paid account and test the difference in latency. I don't want to spend to much on the DSL account so I think I'll start with an IS Fiber account. Seeing as they are the cheapest per MB.

PS. I have got the Dlink
DSL-2540B ADSL2/2+ Modem with 4-Port Ethernet Router.

With who do you speak for a Verizon DSL access account? Spoke to Verizon and they sent me to Nashua Mobile. I did not persue.
