openweb sigup

How does the OpenBrowse work once youre capped? Do you manually have to enter proxy info into your brower once you reach the cap, or is it a seemless transition?
can you please answer this mr.beep :-)
Also if you have to enter the proxy settings manually, is it alot to do? Ima Noob:-/

Let's say for example you have a website in USA, and you need to access FTP to perform updates on this site etc. then you will be able to access that specific ftp location.

Our normal FTP packages do not have FTP activated by default.

BUT,....we are currently working on add on packages called OpenBROWSE plus. These can be purchased in addition to your OpenBROWSE package, at very affordable rates. They will allow you downloads at specific times, and specific days. Then all downloads, ftping etc will be activated for those specific times.

Thanks
MrBEEP

Please MrBeep..... what about the proxy settings?
and also...........
Will IRC need to reconfigured after the cap? or will it be only limited to local servers?

regards

Hey clubbe,

I am going to paste the actual settings that will need to be setup after the cap. It's very easy, and we are there to help you throughout the entire process:

Setup Instructions:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools - Internet Options
3. Click on the Connections tab.
4. Click on Lan Settings
5. Check the box that says: "Use a proxy......"
6. Enter your Host/Address details there.
7. Click OK and OK again.
8. Close Internet Explorer, and restart the application.
9. Go to any website, and a box will popup asking for your username and password.

IRC can be easily configured after the cap, and works great with OpenBROWSE!

Hamachi is a program used to make our pc's see each other like a lan, used for gaming, doesnt really pull any bandwith, but u cant be capped to use it.

From what im reading, i cant use the openbrowse package for just any ftp unless I apply for this and it gets approved.. also, can i download from http hosting services such as streamload? Is there a limit on the filesize we can download thru http?

OpenBROWSE was designed speicifically for browsing and email, an as I said a little earlier in this thread, limited FTP.

At the price, we cannot open downloading, as it will just not be viable. But we will be launching OpenBROWSE Plus add on packages, which will allow unlimited downloading within certain days and times.

Thx

Where is the line between browsing and downloading? I can understand connecting to a site and downloading a 500mb demo wud b "downloading" what about browsing .edu's and downloading a couple mb journal pdfs.. wud that b considered "downloading"? Or is this specifically to connect your IM client, check your email in the afternoon and read the news in the morning?

Three more questions, MrBEEP :)

1. I'm new to adsl, so I have no idea what kind of bandwidth I'm gonna use. I'm thinking of starting out with a plain 3gb account. Can I upgrade this to an OpenBrowse account in the middle of the month if I discover I use more?

2. How's Skype on OpenISP? Been hearing bad things about Skype on IS.

3. I'm sure I had a third question. Will post when I remember :)

Thanx.

Hey sparrow,

Welcome to the world of ADSL!

1. Sure you can, although it will be slightly more expensive.
2. PM me, and I will send you a 1 hour test IS account, then you can see for yourself :)
3. I forget things just as easily...lol

Thx!

Hi

Why did you not answer these questions here-why PM,what are you hiding.
I am still waiting for my test account as well.I asked the question the other day-where r u situated and I
am still waitig for a reply...

Diddy

Well, if you think im hiding something:

1) How long has your company been registered and can i claim VaT back?

We are a new company when it comes to selling ADSL accounts etc, but OpenWeb has been around since August this year, and we have a good reputation for the free proxy services we provided to users. Unfortunately, because we do not have a turn over of R300 000 per year, we cannot register for VAT.

2) Can I administer the email addresses I get from you using a web page.

We are currently working on such a facility, but at this time, we do not have it in place. Soon though!!

3) Do you offer spam and virus scanning on all your email addresses

Yes we do.

4) Can I host a web page with you

Unfortunately, due to the low cost of our accounts, we cannot provide a free web hosting account.

5) I have seen the cost price on is adsl accounts and it seems that you make R5 or less per account and then still offer openbrowse...is this sustainable?

Yes. We have deals with certaing companies etc that allow us to offer these prices.

6) Does every computer using open browse have to be configured seperately??
Yes.

Situated in Ballito

I hope I have answered your questions to your satisfaction. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Kindest regards,
Keoma Wright (MrBEEP)

dd1313, thank you for spoiling a good sunday morning for me. moaning about petty things. i really looked forward to seeing you insult and accuse yet another isp. if you dont like the way beep operates, don't signup. it's very simply.

hey MrBEEP,
I am also considering signing up with u guys, bu I was wondering if about the capping. For a 3GB cap, do I get capped after 3GB usage regardless of whether it was local or international?

Hey lucifir,

Yes, unfortunately that is how the internet backbones operate. SO both local and international count towards your cap.

:(

Small correction, you may register if you wish. Over R300k you have to register. :)

Clarification on OpenBrowse policy.

Hi MrBEEP,

Regarding the "No Downloads" when using OpenBrowse:

When using HTTP you are downloading all the time, so will your system be differentiating a 'download' via different file extensions, file sizes, etc?
Could you be please give us a detailed specification of what will constitute a 'download' and exactly how the system will work in terms of filtering downloads.
Will 'Uploads' receive the same kind of treatment?

Thank you.
