OpenWeb has just launched SMS support:

"Dear OpenWebber,

We are very excited to announce the launch of another first from OpenWeb!

Introducing our brand new SMS Sales and Support Centre.

The service works at follows:

1. You create a new SMS on your cellphone.
3. You enter the number: 34110
4. You type the word openweb followed by your message.
5. Please remember to include your OW username or ADSL username or name and surname.
6. You send the message.

For example: In a new message type: openweb I would like more info on the 4Mbps uncapped account. Keoma Wright

We will then reply to your phone with a brief solution, or ask you further questions if need be.

SMS's cost R2.

The above fee covers the network cost, as well as the cost of the reply. We do not profit from any SMS's sent.

This is just another way OpenWeb is making life So Easy!

The SMS Sales and Support Centre operates from Monday to Saturday, between 08:30am and 18:00pm. Any sms's sent after hours will be responded to during office hours. "

useless if u ask me.
Get decent email/phone support before you start looking for unnecessary things like sms help...

alkit,

I love the negativity. I for one am very happy about this service, as now I can get support when im capped. I need not waste a phone call.

Why not start your own ISP and show us how good you are?

I have been an OpenWeb client for 3 years and love the price im paying for my product.

YAWN!!

wow another method not to call or email for support- nice.

lol, and who is going to pay the wasp- you mr Sherlock Holmes ?

No, the poor sod who uses the service I would imagine. Where do you think half that cost goes?

Actually, no need to start my own ISP. There are so many others out there that actually know what EFFECTIVE email/phone support means...

And if ur capped, what support could u actually need? You haven't got internet anyway!!
When I'm capped, I need the ISP web site to allow me to purchase a top up. Once im topped up, then I have email support if any problem arises..

In addition, R2 per sms is at least 4 mins of phone call time that could be used much more productively to fix any problem

If you're capped. They could offer live text-chat on their site which wouldn't cost you, the subscriber anything.

Hi Fuzzy

Generally, when a user gets hardcapped, they have no access to the internet, thus a live text option on the website will not work.

Thus, we decided to implement SMS support.

R2: R1.20 goes to Vodacom, 40c to WAP provider and 40c to the client reply.

Once again, not a service that will suit everyone, especially those out to post negative comments on all OpenWeb related posts, however, we are proud of this service, and am happy that folks can now communicate with us using SMS.

Is there no way to give the user just access to the Openweb website when they are capped?

We resell IS accounts, and they control the rules.

We pay per account, not per GB, so im afraid not.
