OpenWeb Survey: 64kb and 128kb Uncapped

I am currently on a 192 adsl line 3 gig cap.......

I would definalty move backwards :( to be uncapped maybe a 192k option at more of a preium as well ?? but 128 cant be that much slower can it ???

i have been getting 25-32k on my 192k line for months now so if 128k would get me like 20k or so then this would not be too bad, especially as IS is now hardcapping locally :(
 
actually it is. Although you subscribed for a dsl192, you most likely are getting dsl256 speeds. 128 will effectively half your speed.

I for one think the package is 2 expensive. As you cud get a wisp for the same price. We have 2 pay line rental aswell!

well if that is the case then ic an expect speeds of only 15k. That is not cool. In that case it is pretty expensive i guess. Cant really see what u'd use it for...?
 
you can download alot @15k .... if its a good service you will always get 15k. The problem is going from say 60k downloads to 15k is abit tough.

I just think for the price its not worth it. 256k shapped would be a better offer for R300

I have evaluated all the options, and it seems like a totally Uncapped 128k and 64k is really taking a backward step in ADSL. Why have a 512k line, and only be able to do 64k for example?

I have decided to rather relook at an Uncapped - Static IP type account.

Eg. R499 per month for a 192k Uncapped connection, excluding your hardcore P2P apps, plus a free static IP.

When we say no P2P, it basically means no Torrents, Limewire, Kazaa etc. But it doesnt exclude HTTP downloads, Newsgroup downloads (Easynews) (Usenet) etc. Those are all allowed. So at the end of the day, alot can still be done!

That sounds promising. May be a bit overbudget for me ATM though. If P2P were allowed it would be much more promising :)

OK but what I want to know is what difference does it make how you use it?

Lets take the following as an example.

192/8 = 24k/s Downloads(ideal) 24x60x60x24x30 = 59GB per month for downloads only.

What really gets me tho is how can someone offer 60GB bandwitdh per month with no P2P etc but they cant offer 30GB that you can use on anything. Its half the bandwitdh? I know for sure if I get uncapped I would find a way to max it out.

EDIT - I know in the end its all Telkom's fault but it just really irritates me.

I am currently using a 192 account with Openweb. I don't use p2p at all, but I get pretty much all I need from usenet, which uses http to download. It costs about R60 a month (per 20 gig), but its much cheaper than having an uncapped/unshaped account. Most of the time I dowload at an average of 22.8/s which is cool with me.
