Guys, my account has been behaving rather nicely since I got it on the 1st, except when it comes to Steam. Currently I'm getting 514Bytes/s while downloading from the UK server. Local servers work way better, when they work, but it's very inconsistent. What servers are you guys using?

Local obviously. I always get 420kb/s anytime of day or night.

I have a Platinum account and to say it's useless is somewhat flattering. I've been trying to download a 460mb wupload file since Friday. Openweb for some reason decides to reset my connection randomly so as of yet the file is still not downloaded.

Of course when I connect up either my Web Africa or Telkom account, the files from wupload take about 15 minutes to download.

Bottom line, I'm paying R2500 for an account that is outperformed by an account costing one tenth of that.

Just waiting for my wdsl link to be completed.

That doesn't sound right at all, have you reported the issue to MrBeep? I'm pretty sure he'll sort that issue out with great haste seeing its a platinum account.

Hi hilton,

That is definitely not right. Please mail me so that we can resolve this problem for you.

Emailed Keoma now, hope the VB account i got lastnight just needs some tweaking :), can't get faster than 70KB/s on HTTP with upto 20 threads O_O. On 4MB Gold here btw.

Does the backbone have a location based impact? just curious :p.

No torrents running on this one as it won't work so thats cool.

Am just 100kms from Durbs, what about you other guys around the DBN area? how does the VB fair for you? Read previous posts looked like it improved but looking for a more recent experience.

I went over to VB backbone on Friday. Http never goes above 40 KBs. Usenet never goes above 180KBs. Must say that this is extremely disappointing so far.

Thats been my experience lately on VB (since August)

Finally back in Cape Town so I can try an account change tonight.

Got a response from Keoma not long ago, will continue to monitor. So far sites are snappier :) so a good sign so far.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade from my 384K Gold account to a 1Mb Gold PLUS account or do i have to wait till the end of the month. I'm not on a contract, I buy an account every month. Was on the 1Mb PLUS account last month, went back to 384 this month and hate it!

You should be able to upgrade at any time. Just send Keoma a mail.

Mine's working fine hey.

MrBeep, any comment as to why this is happening every 24 hours? I know back in the day ISPs used to do this so that they could keep tabs on usage, but ICASA since prohibited the periodical restarts and (most) of the accounts I've been on has been without this.
This is however becoming annoying on VB when often I am doing something that requires a constant connection, be it non-resume downloads, streaming or whatever. I've had a few files fail because of this.

Still no heads-up on why this happens?

How would i tell if i am on the VB backbone or IS one?
How do i check my sync speed and things like that?

Because it works, i only had to reboot once a week not everyday, so i am not sure why it is such a dramatic thing to reboot a router haha. You could always come and moan about the speeds all day long but in the time it takes you to post you could have already have rebooted. I know it's a mission taking those 60 seconds to reboot but heck it works so why not?

Seems no matter what people will moan, goodness me. Something as a quick a reboot is turned into such a big thing.

Rapid how exactly do you know what speeds you are getting if you cannot reboot your router? How are you loading all your goodies for download? I had to reboot once this week, so it took a total of 3 minutes downtime this week to get my interwebs working 24/7 full speed  shocking stuff i should dump this account with so much maintenance :p or i must go get unshaped for 2k. Hmmm no 12 minutes a month seems better than another 1.3k.

I'm not moaning.I just agree with him that rebooting your router every now and then is a shlep. My gold account never really had issues , never had the need to reboot my router unless Mr Beep did a port reset

I'm a happy chappy
