Openweb Uncapped Feedback

yeah if still have problems with the webafrica trail then you have a congested exchange.

WebAfrica has become terrible, they used to be awesome for gaming i now get better pings using afrihost and that's saying alot.

So a couple of weeks ago I asked for a after hours test account and it was full line speed. I cancelled my 4meg account with Mweb and yesterday signed up for the 10meg after hours account. Activated it yesterday and was getting 4meg speeds. Today I am only getting just over 1meg speeds, this while I am on a 10meg line.

Just to show that it isn't a line or router problem:

Telkom Account

Needless to say I am not a happy camper today.

So I sent Openweb support a mail about the slow speeds and this was the reply:

"I have again tested the account on a download and am achieiving 9.1Mbps on a torrent download. The account is performing as it should."

This makes no sense to me, I test by downloading Windows 7 SP 1 from download.microsoft.com and it downloads at 150kB/s. Switch over to my Telkom account and I get 850kB/s. To make sure it isn't a caching issue I go back to Openweb account and it downloads the same file again at 150kB/s.

Try downloading via filesonic with download manager and it flat lines at 310kB/s. Switch over to Telkom resume the same file and I get 950kB/s.

How can the same account have such different speeds while testing with my Telkom account shows that there isn't a problem with the line ? Could this have something to do with the locations, I am in Cape Town anybody else in Cape Town on IS having issues?

Thanks will try it and update here soon. Been trying to contact Telkom yet again but seems there is nobody working today.

Well using the Web Africa trial account has solved all my problems. So with SAIX my latency is good but with IS it's the pits. Whats going on?

I always get full speed on after hours uncapped. Currently downloading at 420KBps on 4mbit line...

I'm in Cape town.

I hate Telkom with a passion...but I must admit that I am yet to experience the poor latency and speed on my Telkom account which I'm experiencing on my OW Gold right now. I also hate this moving my account every time I have an issue...if most of us are having the same speed issues, does it not point to the OW network?

Common OW, sort this out.

@Guzilam,

Hmm yeah it may be the extra effort you have to do but atleast it does not cost you extra and is simply an email away.

NO other ISP offers this kind of backup.

Just to add, sometimes problems on the account is actually an over-congested exchange, plenty of comments wrt this.

Best to email Keoma then have a small rant :p.

Remember, any other type of "changing account" costs moola, think how much you have saved by being on OW :)

Edit: BOSS back on the clock :D

Hi Guzilam,

OW does not have a network. We prefer it that way so that when one network does not sauit your needs, we can provide you with an option.

Please email me with a tracert and I will investigate.

Hi Rohan,

I have ordered you an Altech account which I will mail to you tomorrow. Perhaps the IS link is faulty in your area?

Hi Logo,

As per my mail to you a few minutes ago, I have reset your port. Please switch off your router for 30 minutes then back on and provide some feedback. I do hope this resolves the problem.

hi guys my vodacom is broken i tried altech for few hours but fileserve and the like couldnt even open up but worked like a bomb on microsoft. tried rebooting router and stuff but no difference. both afrihost and fnb are working great though.
is anyone else also having issues with voda even though ive been given new username nothing is loading fast even you tube and gmail.
any ideas what to do?

Hey.

I think Vodacom might be shaping you on file server websites. Alot of ISP's are shaping people when it comes to file servers. Try go to Altech store face 2 face.

Openweb's uncapped service is cool.

I used the Uncapped Lite 384kbps. It is uncapped and unshaped. (20% of user base is shaped, 80% of user base is unshaped). It costs R196 per month. Really affordable price and everything is unshaped including torrents and other P2P.

Regarding downloading, I got an average of 50kb/s (50 Kilobytes per second) when downloading. Online Gaming was smooth at first, but then it got laggy "other drivers would lag on the screen [I played Blur online using Tunngle])

OpenWeb has got good Internet :D

Hi MrBeep,

Thanks for the efforts the speeds looks to be good now 800kB/s+ on http downloads will test torrents later.

And this is why I signed up with Openweb, good speed but even better service :)

Speed still ****...gave my free fnbconnect account a go and it is flying. I am beginning not to trust these "GOLD" accounts from Openweb anymore.

i've being experience crazy slow speed in past weekend with my 4mb gold on VB,only 50k less, Keoma changed me to another VB but it was same slow until this morning Keoma gave a another Openweb one, it is back to normal 400k +/-.

It's apparently VB is shaping me again even i only downloaded during the nite and weekend.

Keoma helped a lot again and even during the Sunday! you cannot find any Isp who will give you a service like this! He is working like a Chinese now!

Thanks plugandplay....yep he moved me last week but eish I'm back to low speeds again this morning...will e-mail him later on my way out now.

I am also on a 1024k Uncapped Gold Plus at OW, and this morning my Google search results are coming in at 10KB/s. So I emailed OW, and this was their response:

"It is extremely busy at the moment, thus shaping will take place"

Seems a bit odd that a Gold Plus account would get shaped on standard http access, but that seems to be the case at OW.

Is that also an IS backbone?

The last two weeks, daytime browsing has been tragic at best and downloading anything in a reasonable time frame is impossible.
