I'm starting to think there's something wrong with the path VB takes... maybe an overloaded switch or something...

Code:

If anyone is using newsdemon on vb and its performing... could you please do a trace route?

Wish I could just get to the bottom of the cause... Its seriously frustrating knowing there's a problem - but not knowing where it is.

A lot of headaches would also be prevented if the actual cause of the fluctuating performance could me found.

I'll do one a little bit later tonight, currently on another account right now, seeing that I was getting really ticked off with my VB account

You should get yourself an Astra account :) - shorter route:

Code:
 1 Billion.400G (192.168.1.2) 1.760 ms 1.732 ms 1.718 ms
 2 41.0.128.129 (41.0.128.129) 31.518 ms 31.588 ms 31.587 ms
 3 41.0.9.214 (41.0.9.214) 41.548 ms 43.353 ms 45.522 ms
 4 41.0.72.1 (41.0.72.1) 50.495 ms 52.902 ms 55.574 ms
 5 41.0.9.61 (41.0.9.61) 57.859 ms 60.486 ms 62.972 ms
 6 41.0.246.5 (41.0.246.5) 241.151 ms 226.002 ms 226.375 ms
 7 197-126-245-83.packetexchange.net (83.245.126.197) 239.052 ms 401.719 ms 402.092 ms
 8 unknown.ams.astraweb.com (193.202.122.137) 217.198 ms 213.215 ms 214.896 ms

I wouldn't know what performance is like on ND, but here is the route it takes from my connection, pretty much the same as yours except hop 8:

Code:
 1 Billion.400G (192.168.1.2) 3.185 ms 3.190 ms 3.183 ms
 2 41.0.128.129 (41.0.128.129) 32.765 ms 32.783 ms 32.775 ms
 3 41.0.9.214 (41.0.9.214) 40.086 ms 42.241 ms 44.688 ms
 4 41.0.72.1 (41.0.72.1) 49.380 ms 51.779 ms 54.229 ms
 5 41.0.9.61 (41.0.9.61) 56.950 ms 59.360 ms 61.790 ms
 6 41.0.246.6 (41.0.246.6) 236.329 ms 205.462 ms 207.588 ms
 7 145.253.33.177 (145.253.33.177) 206.634 ms 206.827 ms 209.929 ms
 8 92.79.213.122 (92.79.213.122) 233.170 ms 233.563 ms 233.562 ms
 9 1-2.r1.fr.hwng.net (80.81.192.224) 227.977 ms 228.349 ms 224.784 ms
10 3-1.r1.am.hwng.net (69.16.191.81) 230.642 ms 232.791 ms 234.746 ms
11 e9-1.r1.dc.hwng.net (209.197.0.234) 401.415 ms 387.805 ms 389.834 ms
12 ve914.ar4.dc.hwng.net (209.197.1.38) 395.794 ms ve913.ar3.dc.hwng.net (209.197.1.34) 385.505 ms ve1004.ar1.dc1.hwng.net (69.16.190.122) 388.437 ms
13 69.16.186.118 (69.16.186.118) 394.822 ms * *

EDIT: Ran traceroute again and now its timing out before the destination.

Looks some sort of throttling - because when it connects it jumps to a decent speed (200) - and then dies without seconds...

So there is definite throttling happening. I have been preloading Battlefield all evening, then suddenly at 12 on the button, the line opened up to max speed. Check the screenshot from my routers graphing page.

http://puu.sh/7mos

That little bit during the day, is an ftp download. Which I always get full line speed for, just not http.

Nope... back down to 9KB/s ... was short lived.

Can't even open bloody gmail...

I'm actually starting to wonder what the CPA would say about this... 1.75% of the product max speed is not a best-effort service.

Getting much better performance today, I'm a happy camper at the moment. Would just like to thank MrBeep for his patience with me emailing back and forth a lot during this past week. :)

Site took forever to open.

It just hangs on verifying username and password.

This has been such a waste of money since August... every second day I have to spend hours trying to get speeds above 100KB/s
Suppose not even change of dns might help like in google's ?

Tried :(

Got it up to 200KB now by cycling through newsgroup ports... not sure how long it'll hold.

EDIT: I'm on the way out - guess I'll have to live with another day of this.

How do you manage that? What uncapped package do you have?

I moved over from 384 to 1024 (VB Gold) and currently sitting at 90GB
