Hey Friends,

Yesterday, there was a Telkom backbone fault causing this problem. I believe it has been cleared.

I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind regards
MrBEEP

I can confirm slot int over HTTP

Authentication issues are generally in large part the fault of the DSLAM you're connecting via, connection noise or the 'modem' component of your router (or modem, ofc) being a failure at life, not the ISP's fault.

You can go try a variety of different accounts with different ISPs on different backbones when you're experiencing such issues - chances are good that a few of them will still have issues.

I am still getting really *** speeds ever since Seacom went down. Doesn't feel like it is back up for me. still only getting between 512 and 1mbit on my 4mbit line and I can tell you now if I phone telkom to check my line, they will tell me it is syncing at 4mbit.

Ag what is up again all of a sudden???? Did Seacrap die again???

Can you guys browse international?

Ok, so the service is great and all, but why am I just about to had enough of Openweb? I will tell you why, authentication errors!

It has now happen a couple of times this month that you wake up in the morning or come home in the evening to find that you had not downloaded during the night/day because I had no connection due to Authentication failure. Then you reconnect a couple times (more like 10 times) and then finally you are in. #@!ing annoying, so much so that I have had enough. I have been with several ISP's and this one is the first that I have this issue with.

On two occations I actually had to email them to reset my account! Also a first since I joined Openweb.

How have your experiance been?

If I remember correct, from the previous time this happened to me, it's apparently to do with the authentication servers taking too much strain and having to queue the authentication requests. For some reason though this doesn't really seem to happen as often if you dial via PPPOE.
It happens on my OW account, it happened on my old uncapped account too.

Although, it doesn't bother me at all, because my connection is on 24/7 (on my router).

I also have authentication errors every time I try and connect. I just leave my router to retry on it's own until it does. It's not a deal breaker but I wish I knew why it is like this.

This is also my problem with an otherwise good service. I've tried contacting Openweb customer care and Keoma but they keep insisting that the problem is on my end. This is obviously not true since it is happening to quite a few people. And no, it's bad even over pppoe.

I'd like to hear their response regarding why this is a problem (it doesn't happen on any other ISP's I've tried), and why they keep trying to convince me that the problem is on my end if this is happening to other people.

Hey Friends,

There have been numerous reports of some exchanges currently being overloaded. Although the line syncs at 4Mbps, the exchange itself cannot get the traffic to us at 4Mbps causing the problem. When we test the account on our side, we get full speed.

We have made Telkom management aware if this, and trust this will be resolved soon!

Kind regards
MrBEEP

MrBEEP is the gold uncapped in any way linked to the new IS uncapped t&c ?

Hi Necuno

No it is not. Our Standard accounts arent either. We are however launching new Lite accounts which will be linked.

out of curiosity any chance of a 2 meg option for gold ?

Just want to thank Openweb for the great service. I am leaving at the end of the month. Nothing to do with service or the lack thereof. I have decided to take the plunge to 4mpbs and their gold account is out of my price range.

Not sure where I will be going, have a couple of days to figure it out..

Then why not go for Standard at R539?

Openweb do have cheaper 4meg accounts than the Gold package.

I would never have thought that the seacom line is fixed.

It has been like this since monday, so it can't be purely blamed on the overloaded exchanges. With this account I am really exceptionally lucky if it doens't die on me during the day.

Seriously, shape the accounts, but shaping http to <0.25Mb/s from 4Mb is like rubbing your sphincter against our noses.

kind regards

Thanks for ignoring my questions MrBEEP.

Hi Randhir,

I am sorry, I do not see a question in any of the above posts. Please re-ask them. If I have missed them, I do apologize.

Dijkstra, please email me your ADSL username: [email protected] I will see what is going on. That is FAR too slow for a Telkom exchange problem.

Kind regards
MrBEEP
