got my telkom adsl line activated to 384 going to be signing up today for the isp either openweb or axess uncapped unshapped lite for 190 odd bucks who should i in for?im not a huge downloader maybe 15 gig a month so hopefully not in the top 20% for axess to throttle me.does openweb do any shapeing or throtteling on the lite ?is their sign up quick do they need much documents from me thanks
Doesn't really matter which, because both Axxess and OpenWeb use IS bandwidth.
So... pretty much pick the one you feel more comfortable with.
OpenWeb's online signup worked just fine for me. Opted to pay by credit card, and my account was live and active within 15 minutes.
If you pay by EFT/direct deposit though, it could take somewhat longer, and you need to remember to email the proof of payment to the address given on the signup pages.
With your shaping question:
Its the new IS branded uncapped. It is an unshaped connection, until your usage puts you in the top 20% of 384k users. At that point you will be shaped. Harshly. Once your usage calms a bit and/or other users move up into the 20%, knocking you back down to below the threshold, you will be unshaped again.
So far I am happy with it.
I did a BOATLOAD of downloads yesterday on my newly active 384k, and today it seems I may be shaped. Web pages are still fine. Emails are fine. Hell even youtube is still bearable. My NZB had slowed down to about 1/4 of the speeds it was getting yesterday, but no biggy.
As soon as that one is done later, I don't need to download anything again for a few days.
As long as you dont expect to do massive download queues on the Lite packages, it really is awesome. Put it this way: I have already used more GB than I would have used for the same OVERALL cost on Vodacom...
My R400 on Vodacom would have given me 2GB.
My almost R500 for total DSL ownership has already given me 2.4GB in 2 days...
Good deal for me, I am very happy.
