Woah, I also moved from Afrihost to OW, late last week, since my dl speeds on my 384 started failing. I'm experiencing the exact same situation as you described. I can play Starcraft with my OW account with a stable ping though. It's just the dls that fail.

Please let me know if you have any relevant/interesting info.

Nope! Still getting 7-11kbps on dpopular download sites... Rapidshare etc. and Usenet NNTP. I had one day @ 42 kbps and that was Saturday. Until now, 7-11kbps max. Youtube and most other websites load @ 42kbps. So it is not my line at fault. I may just have to go the Mweb route... sigh! Guess I just wasted R196.
PS: I did PM you my username and got the same automated message posted here and the one I got by mail from OW. Oh well, back to Afrihost until my account there expires due to cancelling it. (still managing 42 kbps there fro some strange reason - guess I cancelled too soon)

Strange. I had your exact problem but MrBEEP managed to sort me out yesterday. Getting good and stable dl speeds now.
 
I have had 4 accounts in The last 3days from MrBeep and still i get poor speed.My 4meg Gold account runs half speed at night (downloads at 200kbps, only n week ago it did 422kbps any time all the time) and during the day 386kbps.Youtube stream at 236kbps at the moment, and I think that is unacceptible on a R739+telkom 4meg Openweb GOLD account.It's not my line (tested with a Afrihost account) and my usage is only 44Gb this month.Just did n speed test and this is the results.Am I the only one that feels my Gold account is not worthy to be called GOLD. http://www.speedtest.net/result/956935374.png

Curious if you have got this sorted. My nzb speeds are sitting @ 170kb/s flat :/ Second time i have used them this month but still, like you say, paying a bunch extra for a service that's not better.
 
I've had the same problem with Openweb in August. I was eventually upgraded to a full platinum account from an after hours account from the 15th of the month.
However, it still had problems during the month. Only when I emailed openweb and asked what's happening with proof via screenshots did they provide me with different settings. As soon as I used the different settings, it all started working again. However, I have noticed that during 9PM to 1AM in the morning, the speed falls drastically... And that was on a platinum account.

Sure you might say why do I moan when I received a platinum account for free.
Well with all the problems I only managed to download roughly 450GB for the remainder of the month.
I always had Axxess Express + Account, and I did about 800 - 900GB GB a month.

I think openweb decides who and when to shape heavily doesnt matter on which account you are.
Also it seems to happen at night time from around 9PM, which is weird since business hours are always around 7/8AM to 7/8PM ??? I've switched to afrihost. Much better!!!!!!

The only times I've ever had issues with my speed with OW, it was when they were trying out new settings which seem perfectly fine now, or if there were infratructure issues...
 
My Int latency is a bit high today,1250ms to london......Speeds aren't that great but still usable..

Local is okay :)

okay even my telkom account is screwd..

Yip... Very serious. That's why I cancelled. It actually started getting ugly and I decided just to leave everything.
The whole internet experience from them was just very weird.

On the first day up until the third day, I had full line speed all day everyday, so I klapped about 90GB in 3 days on a afterhours half month account. Then things started going peer shaped.
MrBeep provided me with different accounts each time, all of which would work fine for awhile and then almost die. MrBeep did comeback to me often, however it's not an excuse. I would leave the computer to go to work and when I comeback, I see that the downloads stopped totally just after 8:30AM. And also the line speeds dropped significantly from 9PM until about 1AM/2AM. Losing 6GB everynight especially if you have the account that's only full speed after hours really is annoying. So yeah I will still say they shape whenever, whoever they want to. If you're not being shaped, your lucky and never complain about anything and maybe it will last.

So tired of the inconstancy surrounding internet atm. Had a whole bunch of accounts to swop between and its always the same thing.
Runs smooth for a few weeks and then rubbish.
Downloads running at 2B/s on a 4meg Gold account, should be completed in 244656:26:00 hours.

Just wish I could have one account that was reliably thats it, not wondering when I log on " oh is today gonna be one of those days" and paying a "Gold" for this service is suppose to give you that piece of mind.

Don't know any more.

Since Telkom started upgrading accounts to 10Mbps, we have noticed a huge increase in support. We have taken this up with our upstream providers, and all fingers are pointing to Telkom.

Nevertheless, you purchase your account through us, not Telkom, thus we have implemented plans to resolve these inconsistencies.

99% of our users are currently very happy with this product, and I believe the teething problems were resolved.

Yeah thanks for that account seems to be running better, as for consistency i can see why its up the creak with Telkom doing there upgrades.
