Whe i signed up, i tried torrents.

Massive failure, cause i battled with speeds until i reset router and uninstalled Utorrent.

Since then, product has been amazing. 200gigs plus since monday last week.

like you i in the main don't use torrents. but also a week or two ago i set up torrenting on my mythtv box and maybe coincidentally, that is when i started noticing speed issues. i am currently not downloading any torrents but the torrent daemon is still active.

Not sure if it'll make a difference, but I shut down the entire application... I just noticed I still have a torrent on the loose somewhere, so I'll check again tonight, there are four/five PC's around the house, so one of them is accidently on and downloading something, but that PC is set to only allow 5KB/s up and down combined, so its not causing much of an issue.

Are you also using torrents?

I don't use torrents whatsoever, only HTTP and NZBs. Although when I do try a torrent once in a blue moon, I don't really get satisfactory speeds. Just hope my speed picks up when I get back home. Its been really brilliant the last 3 weeks, although it might also be that lots of people were on holiday and are back again to clog up my exchange. :wtf:

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean that I will be shutting down anything torrent related running on any of my machines to check.

Hey dude, I found out why your max uploading kills the line - quite simple really:

Some upload bandwidth: You download something, it sends a reply that the data was OK, it sends more data
No upload bandwidth: You download something, no bandwidth to send reply in designated time, stops sending data

Always knew there was a reason, just didnt know exactly how to explain it

xrapidx - are you using SSL? do you find with older nzbs you don't get full line speed?

Gaming lag + disconnects

Has anyone else on Openweb experienced a lot of disconnects since the new year?
I'm on an Openweb 4mb account (throttled during the day/full line speed after 7pm) and I've noticed especially during WoW that I would just get random lag spikes while playing.

Sometimes this lag would last only a few seconds and everything would go back to normal, but more often I would just get disconnected. This is starting to get very irritating, since I would be carrying on with 280-300ms latency, and just suddenly be disconnected.

I'm Guessing that your on IS backbone. Been hearing that a lot of people are complaining about dc and lag there.

I'm not on the IS backbone but since this morning I've been getting High latency on wow and Black Ops. Sent a mail to Keoma but I'm still waiting for a reply.

Yup - becoming a common issue on the IS backbone, see the following thread for more info:

Yeah I bought a WebAfrica account because of the IS gaming issue, but as of today I've had huge latency in WoW on the WebAfrica account also :(

Yep, I'm on the IS network it seems. Mweb customers don't connect through IS do they? I'm playing WoW with my brothers who are with Mweb, and while their latencies are a bit higher than mine, (avg. 370ms vs 280-300ms) I cant remember that they have ever been just disconnected.

Just got a mail from Keoma saying that there was a major Telkom core fault today and that they are attending the problem.

This is going to take a while, isn't it? :(

Hey Friends,

I'm afraid the Telkom core fault is ongoing. Telkom engineers are attending, but we all know how good they are at that!

As for the Disconnects in WoW and similar, Internet Solutions are being sent each and every complaint we are receiving. I will keep the thread updated as to their replies.

I apologize for this! If you need to game, please email me for an alternative gaming account for now.

On 384k Gold and there is definitely something up with IS. I don't game but I've noticed pages sometimes get stuck and time out and my HTTP downloads also randomly disconnect. I've given up trying to download a non-resumable 90MB file after the third try tonight, just impossible.
