you are getting double the speed and are complaining? or are you just crap with the speed notation? Are you saying you were getting 30kB/s and now getting 80kB/s and you now think this is crap?

Im getting 80 on my telkom.. not openweb. Also i know speed notations thank you.

Let's keep the suspense going....

snail, you have now been sorted. Your Telkom DSLAM port was reset.

Grimster, please email me for a resolution: [email protected]

If there are any other folks with a problem, please mail me.

are you testing settings on his account? or is something that might happen to the rest of us?

by putting that statement in the public domain, you have at least made wonder what the issue is and whether it will affect me as a paying customer.

Well 80kB/s means roughly 640kbps line speed...almost double what you are paying for... Is that possible for a 384kbps line? If you're on telkom, the simple answer is yes. other backbone operators throttle the speed to your line (384kbps/512kbps and 4096kbps) you then pay for the same access as your line, but your line is also sometimes capable of doing more than it syncs at... Strange but true. A friend of mine has a 384 line at his office and he downloads at roughly 80kB on his telkom account... I find this very strange... Wish my 4mb line would sometimes download at 8 :D

I see Spyk3r :p But yeah. My telkom account would get capped even faster. Would be nice to be getting those speeds on my openweb account :p

Edit: Sent an email :p

Another Edit

Emailed, got a reply within a few minutes

And problem solved. My speeds are perfect now <3 +1 for openweb :D

Anyone else having poor speeds since the password reset? Speeds have been up and down ranging from 120k to 300, but now holding constant at 30k?

There was a password reset?

Was I supposed to do something?

Anyone here with a VB account that plays BO ? I'm getting some insane high latency on the BO servers at the moment :(

Hi Friends,

There is currently a Radius Server fault on the VB network. Some clients will experience authentication failure problems.

Engineers are attending.

ETA: 2 hours.

It logged in now.

speed is still very slow.

Quite curious to know why OpenWeb is sending me emails to upgrade to Gold when I already am on Gold

This is absolutely ridiculous - get back home and I'm getting PAP authentication errors on the account you gave me ... AGAIN!!!

Definitely cancelling.... I'll give it a couple of months before trying uncapped again. I can't handle this constant debugging - and then when I come home my account is down.

Eish dude, there was a notice up that IS account users will experience difficulties all over SA, and the VB radius server went down just before 5pm. I know its a pain in the behind, but it really isn't Mr.Beep's fault. I was also quick to cry wolf, but after I made my post, Mr.Beep replied immediately to say there are issues.

No one can stop you to cancel, but luckily I still have a 1GB free Afrihost account as backup while I wait it out.

I realize there are problems - and I'm not blaming Openweb - but every time I want to use my account theres an issue, the constant switching of accounts, having to monitor my connection, etc, etc is a bit much - on capped accounts you don't have this issues.

Fair enough, I understand your reasoning :)

Hi MrBeep

Been having similar issues to the users above for the past week or so. I will email you with my account details referencing this post.

In the interest of everyone's benefit in assiting in the troubleshoot of this issue here is some background:

I am on a 10meg ADSL line in Cape Town.

I have not seen my gold uncapped 4mbit exceed 1mbit yet on local speedtests. Speedtest.net detects my location on Johannesburg and latency to locations in cape town is in the 100ms+ region (like its all going via Johannesburg). Does being in Cape Town put me at a disadvantage vs an IS based solution?

International latency to the uk seems to be about 280ms, which is decent. its about the same as I got on the uncapped standard account.

I have, on regular occasions, times when international and/or local browsing would drop to sub 384k speeds or no connection at all.

During any time, I am able to connect via a Capped webafrica or afrihost account and have 5mb+ local speeds on speedtest.net. From the old uncapped standard (IS solutions) I would usually get between 2.5-3Mbit. Based on what the Gold product offers, I would expect a slight improvement, or at minimum similar speeds.

Torrents speeds seem pretty much to be about 60-70% of the HTTP speeds in most cases. Great when you get 3Mbit, but not good when you are getting 0.7Mbit (right now at 10pm)

Hope this information, with the same information from other users helps you provide the quality service users would like and I am sure, you would like to offer. Thanks for the willingness to engage your clients in a public forum like this.
