There seems to be a general wide failure for several isp's in JHB. News24 is down too it seems. My Vodacom HSDPA was also struggling earlier, and my Openweb account has been struggling all morning.
 
What the hell is it with Telkom this year. Things have been getting worse and worse each week since the beginning of the year. High latency, disconnects, failing exchange points...
 
I suspect the backbone guys are testing their redundancy for the seacom planned downtime. Either that or there is a major fail.
 
Hope they can rectify the problem on the VB network asap. My account dc'd about an hour ago for a brief moment, but did reconnect, but according to speedtest.net I can see things aren't what they should be. :(
 
MrBeep you guys should REALLY setup a Twitter a/c so that people can follow that for service announcements. Everyone I know is on there and use it on their phones etc. so if there was some sort of issue you could let people know via there.
 
what i am finding strange is that nntp is going at close to 100kB/s. yet http is doing somewhere between 30kB/s and 50kB/s. these vb problems are frustrating.

I do apologize for the havoc today on our ADSL networks. Telkom is very inefficient it seems.

We have now setup our 'OpenWebNetwork' twitter service, (excellent suggestion!) so that you can keep abreast of our network situation. We will update it as soon as we become aware of a network fault.

Excellent news. Hope other people find it useful. I'll "look forward" well .... not really cause it may affect me .... but you know what I mean, to seeing this put to good use when there are any issues.
 
I have no internet at all for the 3rd time in 4 days. I have a @openwebturbo account.

EDIT: yeah... struggle for so long on my super slow cellphone to post a msg and then the internet comes back on...

It really seems like the internet is going off on the openwebturbo accounts every day around 8-10 for the last couple of days

@openwebturbo.co.za is running perfectly after the major outage yesterday morning. Could be Telkom in your area, as I do know half the country is on their notice board.

Seeing telkom in the area so I really hope they fix what they broke and leave quickly.
 
Hmm. Glad it's not an issue on my side by the looks of things. but yeah @openweb.co.za account seems to be rather slow today. :p Hopefully it'll get sorted soon ^^
 
I'm Interested in the OpenBrowse Uncapped ADSL 4Meg Line.. I just want some info.
Is it reliable, Does the speed just drop and doesn't pick up, Is it Stable?
Would YouTube videos stream at full/close to full Speed or is it just Browsing?
Is it Truely uncapped, I won't be capped at like 100GB?

This is about all the questions I could think of, I'd really love some feedback and maybe join the OpenWeb family if it seems reliable enough :D
