There is currently a fault on the BCS network.

Engineers are attending.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Can any one tell me has this been Fixed ?? my browsing is normal but torrents seem to have gotten the flue :O max download is 0.9kB/s and uploads the same :(

Both my torrents and browsing works perfect, what type of account do you have? You on VB or IS?

Been on Openweb Standard 384 account since 1 May. Username indicates I'm on bcsnet.
Have found HTTP to be really good so far, in fact it's pretty much all I've used. Thank you for this Openweb.

Qrox, you seem to be lucky with torrents. Usually I get 0 KB/s, sometimes around 0.3 KB/s, I've never exceeded 1.4KB/s (down or up). This basically non-existent level of torrents was like this before the recent fault reported on BCS by MrBeep and hasn't changed since the fault was reported. I'm considering asking for transfer to IS backbone.

Fayera, I've been following this thread, it seems you switched from BCS to IS recently and now it sounds like torrents are working sweetly for you?

From my experience with openweb the only backbone that I can download torrents on is the IS backbone and can usually get between 20kbs and full line speed on a good day. Vodacom backbone can download then as well but be prepared to download @ <2kbs :D

@Clearly, yea I'm also on a 384 line, ask if they can change you to a IS account, I have a stable 30 kb/s DL speed then.

Mr.Beep's absence on the forum sometimes does concern me just a little bit.

Not too much, but just enough to feel a whee-bit troubled.

wheunis, try email - MrBeep replies to emails with astonishing speed even after hours and on weekends.

Regarding my request for change to IS: MrBeep told me that I cannot switch to the IS backbone because there are no spaces and he does not know when spaces will become available.

I had no idea when I signed up that torrents would not be possible. More correctly, I had no idea on signup that there were different backbones supporting different types of traffic and that I would be put onto a backbone disallowing torrent traffic. I think that transparency in this regard was lacking. I should have at least been told this account was absolutely not for torrents. (HTTP is really pretty good)

Hello clearly,

Torrents are allowed on your account. However, they are shaped. When the network is quiet, your torrents could even run at full speed.

I have asked the engineers to go through the shaper to see if there isn't perhaps a problem, but personally, I can download torrents perfectly late in the evenings using your account.

Hello wheunis,

I took a break this weekend. I do apologize.

If you have any urgent issues, you can email [email protected] or myself [email protected] I do respond to emails as often as I can. Please remember, this forum thread is not our official support channel, and faster action can be taken if you use our official channel.

As for the general network, all looks good on our side currently. No strange issues. However, there are a few regional issues which could cause isolated faults.

Torrents are fine (30KBps) on my 384 in the evenings and usually get 5-10KBps during the day, but today it's dead. 0-1KBps. (everything else is fine by the way).

I've noticed that my browsing speeds are slower than usual. I have the 384 gold account and the last month or so it's been extremely slow. Do gold accounts get shaped? Anyone else experience this?

All the Gold accounts are shaped unless you have the Gold Unshaped Uncapped which is starting at R599 for 384.

what are the differences bettween Gold Uncapped and Uncapped Standard ?
backbones?
latencies on local and international ?
and may i ask for a 4M gold uncapped trial for just one day?
i'm currently on mweb 4m uncapped and i'm thinking about change ISP.
