Openweb Uncapped Feedback

My apologies MrBeep for being so inactive on this forum as of late.... but I've had no need to request support yet this month..... speed has been amazing (even Guild Wars runs pretty smooth now) it's all your fault :D

Hey Friends,

A major Telkom fault last night caused havoc for many ADSL networks. I do apologize!

All should now be resolved

Not sure if this was linked, but my account was not authenticating Friday night and now its acting up as well again. Help?

Anyone know if there are any faults open on the altech network? cant seem to find anything on the Openweb site.

Anyone got low nntp on vb today?

Yeah my VB is pretty much screwed today. Keoma set me up with another IS account. Downloading from steam now. It started out great but speeds has been dropping. Anyway Keoma works hard and tries his best, if all ISP's had people like him the internet would be flawless :) I think he deserves a vacation or something.

Guys, I think I'm being throttled now. I was busy downloading something through Steam, and last night the downloads were capping at 40kb/s. Now the peak download rate for the last two hours was 27kb/s. I don't really mind too much, as 27 is still relatively fast. I just want to know, am I going to be throttled for the rest of the month, or am I unthrottled as soon as my bandwidth usage normalizes again?

Hey hey...

Is this normal for a 384 IS OpenWeb Gold;

It seems as if there is a general slow-down / dwindle after a couple of days. It all starts out at 30+ speeds, then dwindles over 3 days to sub 10... then spiikes between 5 and 15 for a day or so, then sits around 20 until the dwindle starts again. These are normal downloads from various sites. They all seem to follow this pattern.

I was on the BCS backbone where it did this, and now the IS is doing the same. A couple of downloads I had going all stalled, and now could not get more than 5kBs on either of them. Hopped accounts, and both above 26kBs now.

Is this an IS office hours thing ? What should this noob check ?

As usual, all feedback very much appreciated.

Could be congestion on the exchange. Maybe Mr.Beep can log a fault with Telkom.

Speeds are back to normal for me now. Think it might just have been congestion on the server.

Out of interest, how much would you have to download on a 384 standard uncapped line to make the top 20% to be throttled? I reckon I might make it for the next 3 months, because I've got a giant backlog of games that needs downloading, and after that, I'm probably not going to be left with a lot of downloads and I doubt I'll even make the 20gb mark a month.

How much have you done so far this month?

The amounts I hit on 384 Std was 60-65GB each time (not 20%)..... but worked out you can get around 1.5GB per day without hitting the numbers. It of course assumes that every month and every day is constant.

I can't check, my account doesn't have access to the CP. I'd say probably around 15 - 20gb by now, since last week Sunday.

Hmm, I can probably assume to get throttled then. My line is constantly working, so I proabbly download at least that daily.

Indeed yes... speed is now up again on the IS account.

Yay!

EDIT: Poo... spoke to soon. Dwindling again.

What's your domain name for your OW logon? @isdsl512 ? If so, you can check http://userstats.isdsl.net/index.php for your transferred cap.
I grew tired of thresholds so I got OW Gold.... and yeah, worth every cent.

I used to be dsl-bcsnet.co.za on the Siemens backbone, but after I was moved to the IS backbone, it changed to openweb.co.za.
