hi guys my vodacom is broken i tried altech for few hours but fileserve and the like couldnt even open up but worked like a bomb on microsoft. tried rebooting router and stuff but no difference. both afrihost and fnb are working great though.
is anyone else also having issues with voda even though ive been given new username nothing is loading fast even you tube and gmail.
any ideas what to do?

So what download speed would you get on openweb 384 gold?

I get close to full speed on nearly everything, except the usual Fileserve / Filesonic, et al... where download speeds range from 24KB/s - 33KB/s. These speeds have not fluctuated and are pretty constant during the day and at night.

I am not a newserve / torrent downloader, so cannot comment there.

I am very very happy with my little 384 Gold on IS. Everything just works.

I'm on VB 384 Gold and I'm also happy with my speeds. I get, assuming good conditions, 40KBps on http/ftp/steam, etc. It's only things using p2p ports that are dodgy at times.

On 4m gold IS Backbone. Speeds are really flying this week. Only problem is that online gaming for some reason has 1k latency spikes every 10 mins or so. Otherwise everything is just peachy :)

Rohan, how are your download speeds in general with your 4mb IS account ? Does NNTP run full speed 24/7 ? How's Youtube streaming ? My VB account's performance was much better last night than what it was 2 days ago. MrBeep did say they're sold out on VB accounts at the moment, but he can offer me an IS account.

Don't know if I should take the gamble to switch. I love my VB account, but if I can get better performance from IS, then I'll jump once again. Just don't hope I'll be stuck at 120kb/s speeds on NNTP during office hours :(

Think I'll ask MrBeep for a test account first and see how it goes. :)

I've been having issues since last week wednesday. Wanna pull my hair out. Keoma has tried to help me as much as he could in trying different accounts etc. I had telkom out, they checked the lines, switched to new POTS filter and even tried a different router. Im on the uncapped afterhours account and my Latency is always over 200ms. I've now noticed that even my D/L speed on speedtest at 2AM was on 0.10Mbps...

If anyone has any suggestions what else i can do...

Why not hang onto your VB account? IS is "trying" during week days.

Well the past week its been running well. Last weekend it was the pits. On NNTP Ive been getting full speed this week no matter what time of day it was going at around 400kb/s. Streaming well it's been on and off. Sometimes it works perfect and then the next moment things will buffer the whole time it seems really random. Browsing seems fine with no problems.

You lucky fish,my nntp only picks up after 5pm.I normally just have a scheduler which starts downloading at 6pm.During the day IS is not so leka

Hello,

If you are having a problem, please email me: [email protected]

Please include yourt MyADSL nickname and ADSL username. I will investigate for you :)

I actually already contacted you and you told me that the account was 'working perfectly'. Unfortunately, by the time you'd contacted me, the issues that I was experiencing had managed to go away; severe connection instability to both local and international sites and extremely slow download speeds, without upload speed issues).

Anyway, I've got the Mweb test account now and it has similar shaping to the Openweb account I was on, but what I'm finding interesting is that as far as latencies and latency consistency is concerned (and overall consistency in the shaping), things are looking much better.

More importantly, now that I'm connecting to IS-based services from outside the IS network, I'm able to see that the issues I was experiencing on the IS-based account only begin once on the IS network.

Loading of videos on Youtube and my NHK World stream were working far better (for daytime loading) than I've ever experienced on the 'IS Uncapped Lite' package yesterday during the day, though last night there were some severe issues that prevented videos on Youtube from managing to load properly at all/prevented NHK World from connecting and prevented a lot of pictures on other sites from managing to complete loading. I'm not sure whether this was some kind of daily threshold for the test account I'm on or if it was an issue on their service, though.

What was particularly interesting to me was that my connections were getting shaped on an individual basis. NHK World's stream was getting shaped on its own, Youtube was getting shaped on its own, but I could go about online gaming without noticing that either of them were downloading in the background, in addition to having my inet radio on and my mom using farmville.

I simply never got this kind of connection quality on the IS Uncapped Lite, and at a similar price poitn, I think I'm preferring this vs the idea of having to get the gold account.

All the people touting the Openweb 'Gold' uncapped accounts as though they should be considered the standard while the Uncapped Lite accounts should simply be considered substandard must be ignorant to the fact that the Uncapped Lite accounts actually had excellent performance for the first 6 or so months after their launch. As an example, I was able to consistently get 180kb/s down on torrents during a weekday and 230kb/s or so minimum for mass file sharing sites.

These days it's more along the lines of 23kb/s average for torrenting, and I've all but given up on mass file sharing sites.

Anyway, the performance of this Mweb account may be better overall so far, it's still not up to the level I had on the uncapped lite account back when I first got it. I think I'm going to give Afrihost a try as well before I settle anywhere. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Today the Mweb account is working fine again; NHK World streaming is running better

if you go from lite to afrihost you are buying the same account just from a different reseller , wont make much sense to do this.

basic IS account is throttled based on usage.

in terms of performance.

Gold>mweb> OW standard> basic IS

If the IS account is throttled based on usage, then I don't want to know how poorly it would have performed if I were to fall into the 20 or 50% of the users that get throttled...

Well gee, I just noticed one reason to not like the Mweb account.
Can't post on fourchinz.

Man up. Who's responsible for this.
