Hi All

Is there anyone else experiencing problems with the openweb uncapped month-end special? My connection comes to a grinding halt every 30 minutes or so. Had my line tested yesterday (Telkom tech came out), then tested it on my SAIX account and low and behold...it only happpens on IS.
Any help will b appreciated - I don't think it's my line.

Thanx

You could be thresholded

How much have you downloaded?

Actually not much - at least not close to 10gb. Is there a threshold on these type of accounts?

Mine worked properly from 7PM last night till around 9 or 10 this morning. I was assured that it is unshaped after hours, and I was getting good speeds, however it has been crawling at 20K/s all day and it's now almost 8PM already. If it is thresholded then I would be very disappointed at not being informed about it when i purchased the account.

taken from gamco:

The thresholds are as follows:
384K= 15 Gig for 30 days which is divided in 3 segments of 5 Gig each. The usage is monitored over a 10 day rolling window period. Should you reach these thresholds the service still remains uncapped but your download speeds are reduced by half (192K)

512K = 30 Gig for 30 days which is divided in 3 segments of 10 Gig each. The usage is monitored over a 10 day rolling window period. Should you reach these thresholds the service still remains uncapped but your download speeds are reduced by half (256K)

1024K= 60 Gig for 30 days which is divided in 3 segments of 20 Gig each. The usage is monitored over a 10 day rolling window period. Should you reach these thresholds the service still remains uncapped but your download speeds are reduced by half (512K)

Hmmm, I was told it's uncapped :( Only in SA will you get ripped off like this. Eish, let me go make meself a Strongggg cuppa.

Night all - might as well go to bed. Not much one can do on 20k -
Does anyone know what DNS and proxy I can use with IS accounts? addresses?

Being told it was "Uncapped" doesn't mean they don't have a AUP in affect aka "Threshold"

Basically they can limit your speed, if they see your raping the line for all its worth

If they're limiting your speed they placing an artificial limitation on your account, effectively capping you.

exactly what I've been saying all along here.

doing more that 10G's in the first 10days with a 512k FakeUncapped isn't what i would call raping it for all its worth...

max i could have gotten out of that line was ±5G a day - and accordingly to the threshold in place you may only use 1G a day max for 30 days or be capped by them for actually using the line ?

I dunno, maybe this is a really stupid idea... email them. Maybe they can help? Or is that just a pathetic suggestion. Maybe you dudes like going round in circles on the forums, instead of getting help.

You can't blame the Rainbow nation from being creative. If you can take R29 from the Underprivileged @ R2,85 per minute or less then why not thee afor said. The rich will become richer & the poor become poorer. Fight for your 2 cent's no matter what.

I would recommend against opting for this special.

Multithreaded http downloads on a 4Mb/s line is running at 3.47Kb/s.

Anyone ever contemplated the ASA about these 'uncapped' accounts bound to thresholds? Surely, based on some of the stuff the ASA rules against Telkom, IS can't be allowed to market 'uncapped' accounts tied to a theoretical 30GB limit?

Mine ran at slow speeds yesterday, but today im back at full speed! Its great dude!

i have submitted a secondary complaint 4 pages long - awaiting asasa ruling however, last time they said they was waiting on ISPA on what cap and uncapped is.
...

atleast some isp's have the decency to advertise properly and tell you everything upfront without just the greed of money in their eyes.
